Bernie Madoff’s old pants transformed into iPad cases.

An entrepreneur has decided to put Bernie Madoff's old clothes to good use by cutting them up and turning them into iPad cases.

It’s a special kind of person that wakes up in the morning and, faced with the exciting possibilities and potential of a new day, says to himself, “I know, I’ll buy some of convicted fraudster Bernie Madoff’s old clothes and turn them into iPad cases.”

But entrepreneur John Vaccaro did just that. And Wall Street bankers are snapping them up like they’re the hottest deal in town.

A New York Post report explained that Vaccaro got hold of Madoff’s no-longer-needed garments at an auction of the disgraced financier’s assets. He then set about creating a range of stylish iPad cases priced at between $250 and $500.

The entrepreneur made his first iPad cases from Madoff’s navy blue Christian Dior sweater and Bergdorf Goodman cardigan. They sold fast to a Wall Street lawyer who wanted to give them as Christmas presents, Vaccaro told the NY Post.

Vaccaro sells the cases through the website of his company, Frederick James. They’d already been making iPad cases from cashmere, so when he heard that Madoff’s wardrobe was about to go under the hammer, that entrepreneurial spirit kicked in.

After bagging all 16 pairs of Madoff’s 35- and 36-inch-waist pants (Polo Ralph Lauren and Murphy & Nye among others), Vaccaro wanted to make sure the convicted felon had left nothing behind. “First I searched all the pockets to see if there were any $100 bills inside,” he said.

Whereas Madoff’s lack of honesty was laid bare at his fraud trial two years ago, Vaccaro is being totally upfront about the effectiveness of his cloth cases. “They are strictly for fashion purposes,” he said. “If you drop it, [the iPad] is going to crack.”

Analysing the popularity of the cases (he’s made 31 so far and only has a few pairs of pants left, as well as a couple of sweaters), Vaccaro said, “People want these because he’s somebody who did something bad.” He added: “Given the economic situation of the past week, I think there’s an interest in the financial sector in Madoff that there might not be for other celebrities.”

Following his admission that he’d defrauded thousands of investors in a Ponzi scheme, Madoff was sentenced to 150 years in prison in 2009. His pants, on the other hand, appear to have fared slightly better.

Good catch Ponce. For $250 to $500 per iPad cover I hope the buyer was told what part of the pants the material came from. The mind boggles.

This guy probably saved a few bucks since there were already 16 zippers included. Or is that a little too close to home ?

Ya know, I think Hillary missed a golden opportunity with Bill‘s old underwear. Instead of donating them for a tax writeoff she could have made them into cigar cases for the elite and made a wad of cash. Wadda ya think ?

Best wishes,

agnut
