I have been wanting to start this thread for a long time.

It is a personal pictorial thread for YOUR area, showing the scenes that exist today and are either changed or soon to be changed in this greater depression. What are you seeing in your area... or not seeing. While there may be some things that are seen on the news or other websites, the majority of these are to be first-hand accounts of YOUR experiences.

I will post the first one. A nearby car dealer that probably did not contribute to Obama's campaign.

I'm going to have to start bringing my camera with me because there are many strip malls in my area that are almost entirely abandoned. It reminds me of the 70's when the small shopping centers all closed and were replaced with flea markets. I grew up in Pittsburgh with the steel mills shutting down and lots of lost jobs. It's happening again only it's going to be much worse this time.

I like this idea... I'm into film photography and have been tossing around the idea of documenting the neo depression on a local level as well. I'm into b/w film and vintage cameras. This style seems appropriate to the subject. This place already looks right out of the 30's except for the modern cars and wider roads.

This is a photo of my town. Notice the Masonic Lodge on the right? It's right next to the Police Department. :p This little old place is running on vapors...

I'll have to get some pictures but my wife and I were driving around the south end of town, near where I had lived at one time, and we were noticing the excess of overgrown, rusted fenced lots and empty buildings.

But, right in the middle of this vast sub-urban abandonment was a brand new Super Wal-Mart being built. This is of course now a poorer or working class area of town, almost exclusivley comprised of mom and pop business that have been in the area for decades.

>:( It's all going chasing consumption of cheap Chinese crap.

Yup, gone today, gone tomorrow. I'll try to post a pic when I come across one as well...until then, I prefer the Jack Johnson philosophy. ;D
