As most here know, almost all digital photos keep what is called 'GeoTagging' information inside.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagging

Geotagging (also written as GeoTagging) is the process of adding geographical identification metadata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metadata) to various media such as a Geotagged photograph (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagged_photograph) or video, websites, SMS messages, or RSS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS_%28file_format%29) feeds and is a form of geospatial metadata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geospatial_metadata). These data usually consist of latitude and longitude coordinates, though they can also include altitude (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altitude), bearing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearing_%28navigation%29), distance, accuracy data, and place names. It is commonly used for photographs, giving geotagged photographs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geotagged_photograph).There are many programs and sites that will pull this info from any pic. Here is an example:

I have been researching this for a bit now, and i had an idea come to me. I decided to take a very popular and controversial photo, and delve into its EXIF/GPS info. I used the recent 'White House Situation Room' photo, downloaded from Flicker from the White House.

Use this pic: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5226/5680724572_ab0f11237a_o_d.jpg

Copy and paste it into this site:

Look at the results! You can see all kinds of info, like location, time of day, time created etc. Scroll down and here is where it gets interesting- Look for 'History Action'. Look how many times it has been converted, derived and saved. It gives you all of the times they saved, converted and derived the photo.

You can also see things like how many times they changed the color coding, etc.

Anyone know the date this photo was 'released' to the public?

Im sure these things can be edited, but this is a good tool for making sure you have turned off ALL of the EXIF/GPS info in your digital camera. Also a good tool for catching the lying parasitic thieves we have as Government and Media.

can't you strip some of that ID data, by saving your file in a different format ?

i notice that happens when you save a *.psd as a *.jpg.

*.pdf's & Word doc's also have identifying info. if you want to publish something anonymously, you really need to POKE AROUND because your Anonymous Masterpiece might have your real name attached to it.

and since the US is near the point where you can get sent to Guantanamo for having an un-licensed lemonade stand - it's important to be aware of one's un-intended disclosures.

what i can't figure out is how Facebook ID's a computer, even when all cookies have been stripped, IP address changed, router & computer shut down & re-started, etc. Facebook is going to some other part of the OS and leaving an ID of some kind - or they are coordinating with phone companies to track people who tell the truth about Israel.

I tried this with two photos we took last night of our canning session. I took some on my IPhone and my wife took some on her Nikon. The nikon came back with a crap ton of information, down to the flash speed and detection.

No GPS in a digital camera, so no long and lat.

Used a pic from my Iphone.

Got 1 box of information, mostly about pixels

GPS is in my phone, but the website above did not show any long or lat for my pics.

I know this information CAN be found on some digital media, but for w/e reason mine didnt have it.

In your iphone settings, > General > you can select the Location Services. This allows you to turn on/off this service for maps, camera, internet, etc. Im not saying the info isnt still there though. LOL
