Yea, the seller made like a bandit. Sad that so many do not know the code words for fake.

I cut this "Silver Panda" (from ebay) in half with a hacksaw. You can almost always find these by weighing and measuring. Silver has a specific gravity of 10.5 (how many times heavier it is than water, volume for volume), copper 8.9 and brass around 8.6. So if a coin is the correct size and made from brass, it will weigh about 82% of what it should (8.6/10.5). Sometimes the weight will be right but the dimensions off. As metals get ever more precious, this problem will grow. If you play with PM's you have to get scales and calipers.

I wonder if there is an conveniet list somewhere of correct silver round sizes? I know I have to dimensions somewhere at home for eagles and maples.... Just wondering for some of the more generic rounds and those GIM rounds.

On a regular basis, I am on ebay watching silver art bar auctions. I have been noticing these "100 mills" silver plated bars for quite some time on ebay and it seems that the number of these bars are increasing . It still amazes me that some of these ebayers are bidding $50-$60 for silver plated copper (or brass?) probably not realizing what "100 mills" means. This is just another case of buyer beware when it comes to buying silver on ebay.
One thing that I started to notice this year is that I am starting to see some of these "100 mills" silver bars locally. When I was at one of the many coin shows that I went to earlier this year, I saw a "100 mills" silver bar being sold for .999 generic premium.
Besides the "100 mills" silver bars. Other silver plated bars to look out for and to avoid buying are bars that are stamped "20 grains silver" and silver-plated bars that are stamped "15 grains silver".

Yeah and if that person who bought that fake bar on ebay decides later on to sell it locally, then that person will be in for a rude awakening when the local dealer tells that buyer that it is not real silver.
