Without retyping the big drama that happened next door earlier here:

What would your babysitter do if she locked herself out, with the kids (5 & 3)?
No phone, no numbers, doesn't know your last name. The pizza deliveryman is in your driveway waiting for his money.

Hmmm?? Well it just happened next door.

Something to think about.

(BTW, this 'sitter' was young 20's).

How could a parent leave their kids with someone that doesn't know their last name? Yikes.

I am guessing the babysitter came to your house?

That is bad MN, what the hell is the matter with people?

My daughter only stays with gramma, or a niece, It has been a long 5 years, she'll be 6 soon and if I ever l leave her with anyone else she will have a cell phone and know how to call me.

So what happened MN?

Yes, the sitter showed up just as I was putting food on the grill.

Long, drama-story short:
I loaned her the pizza money.
I provided beverage & cups.
Sorry, no diapers.
I spied a screen window 'hinge' that DH could use a screwdriver on (with help of a ladder to reach it).
We were able to get her back into the house.

I am curious how much she told the parents of the night's ordeal.

She was VERY lucky the evening was nice weather, and that we were home.

And that you and hubby are nice, helpful people!

Wow, that's pretty negligent on the parents' part.

If I had kids and they were that age and I wanted or needed to get out of the house, the person taking care of them would know how to contact me or someone else in case of emergency.

Another question, what about CPR? I always wondered that when I was required to have a CPR license for my RDA. I think even the parents should know that, much less the babysitter. If you ever need to do CPR, it can mean life or death in a matter of SECONDS. 911 isn't much help in a situation like that.

I urge everyone to, in the least, go watch a youtube video on how to do CPR and the Heimlich maneuver. It may save someone's life.

used the heimlich on the daughter when she was 3. CNA training course covered it, and cpr.
