Large Sarge

I have thought on this for awhile, and with the geology, and oil comeing up from fissures and cracks....
Well, lets say the effected area is 10 square miles (just an example)
I cannot remember the dimensions, but its a big area.
They basically need to setup multiple offshore oil rigs (A bunch of them), and drill into that existing pool of oil.
to drain the pressure....
imagine a big abcess, and it is constantly oozing, well instead of trying to seal it up, you come in and lance it from multiple points, relieving the pressure on the boil.
same principle.
its not a perfect fix, but I think you would get perhaps an 80% reduction of oil spill in time...
and remember when they discussed detonating a nuke to seal, and everyone said the geology down there was not going to work for that...
they basically need to establish a ring of offshore wells, pumping night and day, to bring the pressure down to almost zero on that reservoir of oil....
