9-1-11 http://www.rense.com/general94/Encinitas%209-1-11a.jpg Encinitas, CA -- On September 1, 2011, Gary Elliot was taken photographs of surfers at Swami's, a point breach located in Encinitas. He had been taking photographs for about 45 minutes. The sky was clear and the ocean calm at 4:30 PM. Water depth at location of observation is less than 10 feet on a reef with significant algae growth. When reviewing his photographs he noticed a large caudal fin of a shark in the cresting wave near several surfers. The size and shape of the fin is representative of a sub-adult white shark, 3 * 4 meters in length.http://www.rense.com/general94/shark.htm

that's about 1 mile South of my 'home break' ... i lived in Encinitas for 9 years.

in 2002 i had a close encounter with a great white in La Jolla - about 15 miles South.

that changed my skin-diving habits a lot.

then in April 2008, someone got chomped in Solana Beach - about 5 miles south - and they died.

the last known Great White attack was in La Jolla in 1959. so the area went 49 years without a fatal attack ... millions & millions of swimmer-hours logged ... lots of tourists, lots of locals using the ocean.

BUT - looking at that picture - that could be a porpoise - loads of them hang out at the beach in Encinitas & North County San Diego.

BUT - porpoise tail fins are horizontal - if it was a porpoise - it would be a porpoise rolling on its side.

OK, i think it's a shark image.

can't help but wonder if someone did Photoshop it - San Diego is just today (Friday) getting the "Swell of the Summer" - Double overhead + ... Swami's is a very territorial spot (they don't welcome newcomers - even if you live in Encinitas).

Beacons? I grew up surfing Beacons, although I would say D Street is my "home break". I'll be in the water at San Elijo this weekend. A couple hundred yards south of where the photo was taken.

Protrusions to narrow to be fishy or whaley. I expect it is related to the school of man and his floating tools all over the surface of the ocean in the same area. Looks more like a predator drone than a shark or porpoise. Or the Loch Ness monster for that matter.

Its cause of too much BS sensationalist crap like this that I have never made Rense a regular site to visit.
