Kalashnikov AK-47

I go with the AK-47 variants primarily because of costs and a decent AK-47 is plenty accurate with the added bonus of excellent penetration. Besides, it would only take the stroke of a pen for the prez to sign an EO to stop imports of foreign goods including firearms and ammo. I am currently well stocked on guns and ammo but continue to add to my supplies just in case. My goal is to have "two life time supples" to be grandfathered in case of more onerous and draconian gun restrictions.

My home defense Saigas

A grouping of Saigas including (top to bottom) the 12 gauge Saiga-12 (top), Saiga T-6, SGL-21, SGL-21 with picatinny rail, SGL-21, and SGL-10 (bottom).

A RPK M72 Yugoslav (top), and two Romanian AK-47 variants.

I figure after Barack Obama is reelected we will see a blizzard of Executive Orders - some restricting the types of guns and ammo imported and some on gun ownership. As a "lame duck" president, barack will have no incentive to hold back. Hopefully having possession before then will mean our weapons, accessories and ammo will be grandfathered in as it was under the AWB signed by BJ Clintoon.

I'm looking at adding a Polish and Yugo underfolder to my collection. I found some bastardized Yugos at a high price but still looking around.

You've got more guns than most people have bullets, and more bullets than most people have brain cells:)

Nice collection!

The Yugos are smoother it seems but the Romanian is more accurate. Go figure. I really like the Yugo RPK under folder but the sight is a bit canted to the left. I have a couple wind adjustable rear sights that should resolve that without drilling out the pin on the FSB and making the adjustment that way. Still, My next one will likely be the Polish UF but I am looking at a couple other long guns now.

I think so although it can be nerve-racking if I let it get to me. I am in North Dakota now (Scroll down bottom half of page):

Note to self: Buy another AK.
What kind of optic is on the black fixed stock AK in your first post, top photo?

Black Blade, good to see ya posting again!

I echo your sentiments on our beloved AK, love both my AK's and SKS's ;)

Aimpoint CompM4 Red Dot on a low profile RS mount (that co-witnesses with iron sights). Aim Surplus has the mounts for sale and the guy who designed them sells them too on AKforums.net.

Some like the Vortex Strikefire red dot on the mount and I may get one of those for my next little project.

Primary Arms makes a nice little micro red dot that you can scout mount quite well. If you use the ultimak rail itll also let you co-witness, but the rail cost more than the red dot. I've heard nothing but good things about the PA micro dots and at just around 80$ they are a steal.

Tech Sights makes some wicked good apperature sights as well, but they cost more than the red dot for the AK models. For the SKS they are reasonable price and I've got some on one of my Russians and am in love.

I've been thinking about getting the aperture. http://www.tech-sights.com/
I have Tech Sights on my Marlin Model 60 and really love them, the sight radius is 26" and the front sight pin is small. I had almost given up on iron sights.
I can't hit anything with my AR15 A2 sites because of short sight radius and fat front sight, though (my eyes are old).

The mounting of the AK aperture looks kinda flaky. Anyone have experience with them?

I would never mount anything to the dust cover you might as well mount it to the bolt as far as keeping stationary and constant zero. The AK is a bullet hose of the first order but still.

The side mount on the other hand works great in my experience.

Thanks for the post Heimdhal. I am in the market for a couple Holographic sights that are around the $100 mark.
I find that the Red dot sights have parallax issues unless you're spending hundreds on each scope.

I assume that a holographic sight (Basically a projection) would solve that issue. I was going to buy a couple made by NcStar, but the supplier I would have ordered through is sold out.

Great pics Black Blade. Thanks for sharing!
