Fights on the football field are not all that uncommon, but one from a high school game in Sarasota is enough to make you catch your breath.

A woman's voice can be heard in the video as she screams, "Oh my God," when a referee fighting with a coach is tackled in full sprint by a young football player.

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is investigating the melee that started when coachees and a referee began to throw punches after the referee calls the game.

The incident involved the Sarasota Gators and North Port Huskies during a game on Saturday afternoon at Riverview High School in Sarasota.

Several men along the sidelines with the Sarasota Gators get verbally and physically agitated with the referee. The video shows one of the men, who was dressed as a coach, following the referee as he leaves the field.

The camera leaves the two for a moment and then shows other coaches sprinting toward a fight happening on the field.

however, i think that the opposite is happening...the participants probably know someone is going to video it and post it on youtube, giving them a very misplaced sense of celebrity. instead of the videos being posted to increase awareness of this despicable behavior, they are being posted to give some mindless mob their 15 minutes of fame.

I don't think it would stop if it was shown on TV. I think it would get worse. People who behave this way have a different set of values that normal people simply cannot fathom. They are proud of serving time, and glorified for it in their communities. Same goes with murder and theft and sucking off of the system. As amazing as it is for some of us to understand, these are things to be proud of in some circles. And it's very important to note that it's only some circles!

Are you serious? The media completely ignores/censors reporting of black-on-white crime, yet still it happens in large numbers. The media blows way out of proportion white-on-black crime, if not fabricating them completely (duke lacrosse team), yet somehow this doesn't cause whites to go commit hate crimes.

HOUSTON - Spring ISD dropped the hammer on two of its football teams after a bench-clearing brawl Friday forced officials to stop the Spring-Westfield game midway through the fourth quarter and according to reports, led to an altercation between spectators at a restaurant across the street from the stadium.

At a press conference Monday, the district's superintendent Rodney Watson and athletic director Willie Amendola announced punishments for players and coaches from both teams. Those include each team taking a forfeit – Westfield was leading Spring 36-25 when the game was called – and both head coaches (Spring's Sam Parker and Westfield's Matt Meekins) getting a one-game suspension.

Six Westfield players have been suspended - four for two games each and two players for one.

Five Spring players were dealt suspensions - one for three games, one for two and three for one.

None of the players suspended were named.

A number of spectators leaving George Stadium went to a Burger King across the street, and according to reports, a fight broke out in the parking lot.
