Its been so dry.
We just can't catch a break... its been smoky here for 4 days.
First TS Lee blows right by us - giving us several days of a strong north wind fanning the wild fires...

I wish I had taken some pics to show you... Smoke has been so thick.

Now there's another tropical system and all the models are pointing EVERYWHERE but where it will be the most appreciated.

ETA: when I posted this... several tracks went to Mexico and several more went to Louisiana.

If it comes in to the south of us, we'll get a East wind... pushing the flames west...
If it goes up toward LA, we'll get North winds again... pushing the fire closer this way.

You should be in my part of texas , nothing but fires popping all around, smoke in the air for the last 4 days now.

Unofficial estimate is somewhere around 30-50,000 + acres burned.

Edit: for correction.

Sounds like it wouldn't make any difference... same story here.

99% of Texas is in a severe drought or worse. It's bad up here, but not that bad.

Shit, man when your neighbors house is burning down , does it really matter if the picture or video is taken by an amateur or MSM?
Hell even msm reports and shows real news and shit , now and then.

My wife got one from my BIL's cousin in Bastrop... They lost their house.

It's in her email- I'll try to remember to get it from her. It was taken from a highway looking in the direction of their home... a picture of epic doom...

Local news is starting to report that maybe 8 of the fires in the area may have been arson. The big fire southeast of me (3 miles) killed a 20 year old mother and 19 month child.

If any of these fires are proven to be arson, they should give out death sentiences.

Texas law provides for the summary execution of arsonists caught in the act...

man i hate to hear this news guys please be safe . have what you want out of your homes ready to go ... be safe guysWe are going to have too put up with this shit until we get some rain and that is not happening right now. Things are so dry you can set shit off just by looking cross eyed at it. The only good thing is if the area you live in has burned it can not burn again, at least in this season.

While arsonists are sick little shits, sometimes fires can start by accident from things like dust covered power lines and terminals and other things like broken glass acting like a magnifyer. It's not unheard of. Of course a lit butt tossed out the window will get things going. I've seen that happen before my eyes several times.

When fire hits the glass land or crops you better be moving 30 - 40 miles an hour because that's how fast they can travel. I had one go over the top of me and it's terrifying. Things counted for us were it wasn't an inferno like what you guys are dealing with there. We found a very deep recess under piled up rocks, trees and other rubble and I think the last thing was the speed that it travelled. It was probably much less intense than it could have been so it zoomed over us and kept going. The air burned to breathe. If it was heavier bushland we would have been done for.

prayers for all those caught up in this. Be safe.

Video shot by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department shows how quickly a wildfire is moving through Bastrop State Park. At least two-thirds of the 6,000 acre park have burned. (Sept. 6)

A fire like that would be impossible to fight with trucks. Only thing you could do is bulldoze a fire break. With those winds it would have to be a wide one.
