He taught himself mechanics and electronics to build the flying saucer which is powered by eight engines attached to propellers.
It's not the first time the farmer has branched out into aviation - he built two jet planes at home, although both projects failed.
The first one didn't get off the ground after a tyre blew out on his runway while the second crashed on take off.
But Shu, of Wuhan, Hubei Province, was not discouraged and turned his attention to flying saucers.
He spent £6,000 on his first flying saucer last year but that also failed to take off.
Shu went back to the drawing board and started work on the second version this year which he has now successfully flown.
He now plans to further refine his flying saucer and also hopes to set up a school for children interested in similar projects.
"My dream is to establish a special school where kids would be able to learn all sorts of things they don't teach in ordinary schools," he explained

Good for him. It's not an original design concept but who cares about that. I do find it interesting that a Chinese farmer had a spare $6k to burn on a hobby.

That is not a flying saucer. It is not using variable frequency resonating magnetic and vacuum energy.

Looks like he built himself a nice meat chopper so that when he falls into one of the strategically placed blades, he can paint the field with his body parts.

The article stated 6,000 british pounds... closer to $10K.

Or this guy, who has his homebuilt 'airplane' spinning the prop at 4,000 rpm - YIKES!

If you can think of it.........you can do it...........up till now I have had only one project that I am unable to finish because what I need (as of yet) does not exist.

Don't worry Ponce... the "flux capacitor" is being invented while we speak! ;D

With my "poor" education I only work on things that I think off and not on what others think.......I don't even know what a "flux capacitor" is.............buy hey, maybe you can do something with it? hehehehehehehehehe.

I loved the part where the guy was wielding without a hood or any sort of eye protection.

If he's really interested in getting airborne *safely* he should look into getting one of these -

Rambler? if everyone were to think that way we would still be using a sail boat and there would be no airplanes......civilisation advances on new ideas and not only on the PROVEN ones.

Ponce, I really don't think anyone is going to advance the science of aerodynamics without a wind tunnel. Or a machine shop. lol

IMO those guys in Africa trying to build homemade 'aircraft' in their backyards all have death wishes. A propeller spinning at 4,000 rpm?? Holy cow...

Yep , that is one plane of rotation not to be in.

Life is nothing more than playing dice where at a roll of them you can either win or loose......but you will never know unless you roll them.........I have roll them many times and I am still here (how?, hell if I know) someone up there must like me.

That is the first thing I thought of. Those look like the kind of props they use on Airboats, and airboats have a cage around the prop for a reason.

The wheels can't support the weight of the steel frame.... but they think they can get enough lift? LOL. It is pretty funny.

And the skinnies trying to run a helicopter from a failing truck engine! Hahaha! I thought the camera guy was nuts to go up to blade level and film the rotation as if blades never come off.

I don't know if I should applaud their attempt or just be glad that there was no gore in the video.
