Croatia may not be the first country that comes to mind when thinking of supercars but that may change with Rimac Automobili's electric Concept_One unveiled at the Frankfurt autoshow.
The quoted specs sound interesting too. How about a curb weight of 1650 kg, and a Bugatti Veyron baiting 1088 hp, yes, you did read that correctly! 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds a top speed limited to 190mph and with 92kWh of energy in the Battery Modules an anticipated range of up to 370 miles/600 kms.
Rimac's powertrain is divided into four sub-systems, each consisting of one motor, inverter and reduction gearbox. Each of those systems drives one wheel, working independently from one and other. Called All Wheel Torque Vectoring, it allows a new approach to vehicle dynamics notes company founder Mate Rimac, "I believe that the electric motor is a much better machine compared to the ICE, in almost all aspects, especially for a sports car."
The body is clothed in carbon fiber and was designed by Adriano Mudri who explains, "Exploring the labyrinth of creativity, it
was obvious at an early stage that the design had to be simple and clear with a lot of sporty elegance to easily catch up with its competitors in this power and exclusivity class."

After Rimac's engineering team finished the development and prototyping of the interior parts, leather specialist Vilner was called-in. Special attention was paid to the infotainment system and gadgets like head-up-displays and soft-close doors.
So, who exactly are Rimac Automobili? Well, they're a young company which currently develops and produces high performance electric vehicles, drive trains and battery system which all began when Mate Rimac converted his old BMW to an EV racer. He explored the technology by improving every part and began to team-up with experts from different fields in order to develop his vision for a next generation supercar.
Mate's old BMW has since been officially homologated as a "Rimac Automobili e-M3" and is used as a test car for battery technologies, battery management, propulsion systems and in-house developments. "Our first car evolved in a short period of time into a project that didn't give a final result, instead it was a start, the start of the world's first electric hyper car, the Concept _One," say's Mate. Deliveries of the Concept_One is scheduled to start in 2013 with only 88 being built. By James Foreman (http://www.girlracer.co.uk/motorsport/james-foreman.html)

"Big companies think big and do small, small companies think big and do big".......and that's why I always look at my trash before I throw it out.

nice looking car with the range you might get from a tank of fuel. Refuelling no doubt takes a while so it might only be a short journey type vehicle. I hope they do more great things. They seem to be on the right path.

To my Dr it would be 210 miles round trip and to CostCo 146 miles so the range of 370 miles is more than what I need, now then, only 88 will be build...........at what price?

Use the same tech in a small two seaters and lighter .........and cheaper, and they would have a winner.

Off topic, but there must be something good in Croatia's water supply. I've encountered so many well-awake Croatians (like Tomislav Sunic GoD, and many others on other forums) that it can't be coincidence.

Here's the inventor drag racing a Tesla car in his BMW modified electric car.

There's a local guy here that owns and drives a "Tesla Motors" sports car. For the price I'm not impressed, plus the idiot can't seem to make it go faster than 50mph for some reason so I have to pass him and just shake my head. These electric cars are just nothing more than toys for the rich. Until the strangle hold of big oil is broken, electric cars for the masses will never happen.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to own one, but I don't ever see them being within the price range of anybody I know.

One cool thing about electric cars, that you must keep in mind when comparing the price, is the maintenance requirements. From my understanding, an electric car requires almost zero maintenance. No belts, water pumps, fuel pumps, air filters, fuel filters, oil changes, spark plugs, radiator leaks or antifreeze, transmission...the list goes on.

I can drive my "beat up" Volvo for another 200,000 miles and still spend less on gas and maintenance than one of these electric cars cost. Yes maintenance is kind of a pain, changing oil, etc., but I'm a guy, it's what we're supposed to do.
