View Full Version : Do You Trust the Mainstream Media?

In 1990 when the Soviet Union collapsed, the portion of the population that had any trust in their 'media' was much closer to zero. They didn't have the internet.

Consider what the MSM is doing to Ron Paul. What good reason would anyone have to trust the MSM?

Public trust in mainstream media remains near all-time low, says new Gallup poll

Saturday, September 24, 2011 by: Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Creeping up just slightly over last year's figures, the percentage of Americans who say they have a "great deal" or "fair amount" of trust in the mainstream media to report full, accurate, and balanced news is now teetering around 44 percent, according to a recent Gallup poll.

Last October, we reported that only 43 percent of Americans surveyed put any sort of stock in the mass media to report news honestly and fairly, which at the time represented the lowest level of trust in the media since 1973 (http://www.naturalnews.com/029931_d...).

When accounting for a reasonable margin of error, however, both figures can be considered roughly equal, as they represent widespread distrust among Americans of the mainstream news that is constantly peddled to them as truth.

On the flip side, 55 percent of respondents said they have little or no trust at all in the legitimacy of mass media. Depending on their political affiliations, surveyed individuals provided different reasons for not trusting the media, including beliefs that it is "too liberal" or "too conservative," but many simply do not trust it as accurate.

Based on the same survey, Gallup found that 47 percent of people think the media is "too liberal," while only 13 percent think it is "too conservative." Thirty-six percent said they think the news media is "just about right," and these individuals are likely also the same ones who hold a fair amount or great deal of trust in said media.

It really is not a surprise that Americans are losing trust in their once-cherished media staples. After all, it is now becoming common knowledge that "The Big Six" -- General Electric, Walt Disney, News Corp, Time Warner, Viacom, and CBS -- own a dominant share of the media today.

It is for the 55 percent of Americans who now see through the lies of the mainstream media that we do what we do here at NaturalNews. By presenting news that never gets reported, as well as a unique perspective on the news that does, those who are "awake" can continue to become informed and educated in the truth. And eventually, this will hopefully spread to the other 45 percent as well.

MSM is purely propaganda, a toxic mix of truth and lies. But you cannot always separate the two. For the average person, the risks of exposure to the MSM fair outweigh the benefits. Personally, I had foresaken any and all exposure several years ago. The clarity of thought and strength of purpose I have enjoyed since have been life changing. Now, when I see or hear the MSM, it appears as some foreign intelligence, obvious in it's malevolence and manipulation. The most valuable possession one has is time; and time is far too precious to waste on the MSM.

The short answer is NO... and the U.S should only be compared to other nations that have similar "gullability" or "sheeple spell"... Russians knew better. Just take my word for it and don't argue ;D

One of the myths that came with communications was altruism. What viewers and listeners process as public service is actually a business model. I've done radio professionally. Content delivery and management is all formula - smaller markets subscribe to a lot of network programming whereas majors have better local talent.

Either way the glue that holds a daily clock together is content from New York and Los Angeles. Smaller to medium markets can take a stab at local programming but it takes sustained financial support and a good general manager behind the air staff to pull it off. Meanwhile sales and marketing do banners, picnics, and sponsorships to build community exposure and loyalty.

And these listeners and viewers are completely oblivious to constant suggestive programming gluing together their radio or television stations - it's like breathing it just happens, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I've seen it from the news desk, producing, and engineering - the very concept of broadcasting is what makes it the perfect payload with maximum effect to deliver all this stuff.

Trust never really factors into it because Arbitron books tell them how effective their formula is and they adjust accordingly, hence your occasional sighting of a station changing format. And the glue is there - it is everywhere. And people still listen and watch, even if they don't trust the media. And as long as people continue to do that, the longer they continue to be "glued" to their radios and televisions. That's how it works.

The glue is all the dead ad space covered over with propaganda brought to you by the "Ad Council for America". Welfare for radio and teevee stations that cannot seem to sell enough ad time on their own without help.

Honestly, I am surprised to even see a question like that posted on this forum. I have known since my first day as a GIMer that none of the membership trusts mainstream media. It's a given.

Heck, it's a prerequisite!

One of the better President Trump legacies

Cracknewz: Number Of Republicans Who Trust The Media Has Fallen By Half Since 2016 (https://www.cracknewz.com/2021/09/number-of-republicans-who-trust-media.html)

The nation’s plummeting trust in the legacy media has been driven almost entirely by conservatives, as a new [Pewresearch] poll (https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2021/08/30/partisan-divides-in-media-trust-widen-driven-by-a-decline-among-republicans/) reveals the number of Republicans who believe the national news media has fallen by half over the last five years.

All in all, 58% of Americans say they take at least some of the information reported by the legacy media at face value — a precipitous drop from 76% in 2016...

The number of Democrats who put their faith in media reporting has remained nearly unchanged since 2016, declining only five points, from 83% to 78%.

But Republicans who said they could place stock in at least some of the legacy media’s dispatches halved, falling from 70% in 2016 to 35% in 2021.

While that’s an enormous drop, much of it has come in just the last 18 months. The share of GOP members who say that the legacy media reports the truth has fallen by 14 percentage points since late 2019...

While two-thirds of Republicans trust local media, 84% of Democrats do so...

Democrats are far more likely than Republicans to trust “mainstream” media sources. While just over half (53%) of Republican Party members say they trust major media outlets, 78% of Democrats trusted the often corporate-dominated media, according to another Pew Research poll [Gallup poll?] (https://news.gallup.com/poll/352316/americans-confidence-major-institutions-dips.aspx) released in July . Only 6% of Republicans trust TV news.

I'm in Michigan but I was thinking about pm'ing him to see how he is. He has been a long time poster here through thick and thin. A very sober and insightful voice and responsible for sharing a lot of info.
