I have seen insanity and it happens on the streets of Valparaiso, Chile. The Valparaiso Cerro Abajo Race is a legendary urban bike race and is more extreme than skydiving. The rider must brave jumps, stray dogs, and flights of stairs along the steep downhill path. The first person perspective provided by the excellent helmet cam lets us take in every glorious and frightening detail.

There's a great urban DH race in Portugal also. I would love to enter and race one of these(in fact, I'm going to now that I have it in my head), but you'll never find an urban DH race in the US due to sue happy parasites. The dirt DH courses at the ski resort down the street were shut down five years ago after a racer was paralyzed in a crash. Even though he signed several waivers, he sued. Luckily, another ski resort has stepped up and built a course this summer.

Another reason you wont find this sort of thing here is that people bitch that they're inconvienenced. Last year the Tour of California rolled through town for all of five minutes. You should've heard the moaning and groaning.
