i wonder if the CBS polling unit goes to specific places where they know they'll get the desired response, e.g. country clubs, Chabad Lubavitch crime centers, etc.

Project based on 2 wk trend to Super Tues 2012 (Mar. 6):
11 x 2wk period x change%/2wks. x current % + current %
eliminate negatives
renormalize to 100%
Herman Cain: 46.7%
Mitt Romney: 22.4%
Newt Gingrich: 10.6%
Ron Paul: 10.1%
Rick Santorum: 4.4%
Michelle Bachman: 3.2%
John Huntsman: 2.6%
Rick Perry: Gone
undecided: 0
Doubtful that Herman Cain continues to grow at this pace (+12% per 2wks)
Doubtful that Rick Perry continues to lose at this pace (-11%/ 2wks), but likely he is out.
Herman Cain votes are anti- Mitt Romney votes
Ron Paul could end up with a lot of the projected growth, as Rick Perry is declining (likely out) and Michelle Bachman is not rating so well (at least in this crowd).
If we split Herman Cain's projected growth 3 ways equally to Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, and Ron Paul, we get:
Herman Cain: 26.9%
Mitt Romney: 22.4%
Newt Gingrich: 20.5%
Ron Paul: 20.0%
Rick Santorum: 4.4%
Michelle Bachman: 3.2%
John Huntsman: 2.6%
Realistically, Rick Santorum, Michelle Bachman, and John Huntsman will drop out. This leaves 10.2% to be split amongst the top 4 (Cain, Romney, Gingrich, and Paul). Bachman's votes likely go to Paul. Santorum and Huntsman likely go to Cain, Romney and Gingrich, possibly some to Paul.
Who will drop first, Gingrich or Paul? I say Gingrich (establishment guy with establishment money and pressure). Gingrich's votes go mainly to Cain and Paul (with the weaker ones already out).
I see a potential for a close race based on this data.
Of course this is a high uncertainty projection.

I wonder if CBS even polls people at all, and doesn't just make up the numbers

Yep, and when you consider who owns the media it isn't far fetched in the least.

Did palin ever toss her hat in?
It appears Palin is going to wait to the very last minute to register (Oct. 28) to minimize her exposure. The stupid, clueless Zionist tool thinks she's so smart.

Probably is a good idea for her to wait, to avoid those shitty debates...
