Heard this one on shortwave last nite.

Milk has been supplemented with vitamin D for quite a while. Any guess as to the source of the vitamin D?

Turns out they expose pigs to sunlight and when slaughtered they process the hides for vitamin D. And I would be willing to bet it is not the Gentiles that are doing it either.

Cholecalciferol. (= Vitamin D).

i thought they synthesized it in a lab.

You could be right. I don't know as I have not researched it. The pig story sounds right though. These are capitalists and why bother with a lab when you can harvest it directly. We have several hog hide processing factories in the area. They also get gelatin (think Jello) from hog hide as well.

i agree that Kosher is a racket.

my experience with Halal diets is that -
* Muslims often eat fish
* my liking for bacon means that my kitchen is not Halal. in order to entertain Muslim guests who adhere to a Halal diet, i have to make one change - move all the pork to a second kitchen, along with frying pans that the bacon was cooked in. scrub down the counter, etc.


so now i'm curious - what is the Halal insignia on a packaged food product ?

that green thing is a Halal sticker. i never noticed it before but i'll keep an eye out for it.
