f the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first-born child is a girl, she will become the first female allowed to inherit one of Britain's richest estates.Under a new law giving female heirs equal rights, the first-born child of Prince William and his wife Catherine will inherit the STG700 million ($A1.12 billion) Duchy of Cornwall.

The Sovereign Grant Bill, which changes the way the royal family is funded, is set to become law after being passed by the House of Lords last week.

A clause allows for an heir to the throne who is not the Duke of Cornwall to receive revenues from the Duchy of Cornwall.
"The principle that should run through all these issues is that men and women are treated equally," constitutional expert Lord St John-Stevas told the Sunday Express.

The move is likely to fuel calls for reform of the 1701 Act of Settlement to allow a a first-born female to succeed to the throne instead of having to stand aside for younger brothers.

The Duchy of Cornwall consists of nearly 54,000 hectares of land in 23 counties, largely in England's southwest.
It provides an annual income of almost STG18 million to Prince Charles, who is the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cornwall.Article Link (http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/world/10432000/new-uk-law-to-change-royal-fortunes/)

As I have mentioned many times the Royals are statutory only. They are not divine. They are public servants and this is confirmation.
