i wasn't sure where to post this, but figured gen disc. was as good a place as any...moderators, feel free to move thread to more suitable location.

lately, i have had lots of problems with adobe flash player...i currently use an ibook g4 ppc and until this weekend hadn't had any problems.

sunday, i was blocked out of chat because it said i needed to update my flash player version. after several tries, and some help from joe, i was able to track down an archived version of flash. still couldn't get into chat. spent several hours farking with it yesterday, and still no luck.

then today, i try to access youtube, and my browser crashed, repeatedly.
that has never happened before. so i go back to adobe's site, uninstall the version i had, then installed the archived version. that solved my youtube issues, but not all of my chat issues...

now when i try to log in to chat, it tells me i am missing a plug in, whereas before, it was saying i needed the newest version of flash player.

this seems to be a step in the right direction, but i still am not able to log into chat.

has anyone else had these problems, or similar? does anyone have any solutions or ideas, comments, etc.?

my macbook pro stopped displaying anything with flash on sunday morning. i updated via adobe.com, and it works fine now. not quite sure what the issue was. you wouldn't think it would stop working 'internet wide,' but that's what my macbook did.

i would bet your macbook uses an intel processor, and not a ppc. that seems to be the kicker, adobe has dropped support for the powerpc platform, now they only support intel processors....

I find adobe is updating flash very frequently. Since they took it over it is being updated nearly weekly. Often a couple times a week. Since Adobe took it over it's been like that. Adobe can't design software IMO. They create bloatware of monumental proportions.

Actually let me rephrase that. They can make sand boxed (standalone) software ok, but stuff that runs in a container in another App like flash in a browser they seem to have problems with. I am also not convinced they aren't adding in various privacy invading capabilities. I'm suspicious that way.

Windoze here.

i do have a very expensive desktop in the house that runs on windows seven, but that system is primarily set up for the g/f with software suited to her visual disability. i guess i could have used it to enter chat on sunday, but she was busy with it herself. also, i would like to find a way to correct the problem on my ibook, if such a correction exists.

I'm having problems with it too and the updates aren't installing properly. I keep getting errors. It seems like when Mozilla updates, Adobe isn't keeping up with them and incompatibilities occur.

Me too... when I try to play you tube videos full screen it won't work anymore... no problem with Real or Media player... I'm thinking it's some flash program designed to censor certain viddies...

I never update good working programs unless I have to,
it did save me lots of trouble. I keep older ones I like and
rate them, there are sites that have old versions, for this,
remove it and go back to what you had before, seems
you people have something in common.

Adobe software is never very good.
Slow, crashy, and subject to frequent updates.
Unfortunately, they own flash, no competition allowed.

Speaking of slow, crashy, and subject to frequent updates - anyone else giving up on firefox?

It was a joke... :p

A term to refer to a multiple group of people regardless of race.
Guy 1: What is wrong with you people!
Guy 2: You people!? What do you mean "you people!?" Are you racist!?

A Word Used By People of The Caulcasions To Talk About Blacks, Latinos, And Other Minorities
White Guy: You People Are Always Having Loud Parties
Black Guy #1: Wait What The Fuck You Mean "You People"

Blacks.
While the phrase has long been used as an interpersonal generalization, it has become known as a racial epithet targeted to blacks only recently. The earliest documentation of this meaning that I can find is from 1992, when presidential candidate Ross Perot was chided for telling an NAACP audience about financial hardships befalling "your people."
Willie Clark, president of the N.A.A.C.P. branch in San Bernadino, Calif., said the overall tone of Mr. Perot's remarks and particularly his use of the phrase "your people" reflected how culturally out of touch he was with his audience.

"When he said 'you people' or 'your people,' it was like waving a red flag in front of a bull," he said. "It's something white folks have used when they don't want to call you nigger, but they don't want to treat you like an equal."

:p

Okay you got me, :p, sometimes I am slow, I kinda figured though,
I banged off the post fast, just got in, sometimes when I do that the
wording is not the greatest. I have had problems like this in the past,
just wanted to help out.

As far as the Fire Fox comments above, I have old FF, 2.0.0.20, I don't have problems,
very odd to have a problem, opening up some images are one of the only
problems I have, and it is on here, the way VB does the images attached.
Many places give a warning but I have not noticed problems, with NoScript
turned off though, pages load slow full of scripts, I think it is the scripts, but
I keep it on. Most of the pages I go to are the same anyways, so I know what
to expect.

My advice is not to update to new if it works fine, and if you do, keep the old.

The last couple of firefox upgrades sucked big ones, freezes and slow as shit.

Went back to the last stable ver, and plan to stay there.

They have not learned, "If it's not broke , don't fix it!"

beware of "updates"...they are often thinly disguised attempt to get info into and out of your computer.

...you might have something there JDR...i noticed something like that with utorrent awhile ago. i updated to a newer version, and it would crash immediately! couldn't even get the damn thing to open! i had to uninstall it, and root around for an older version that worked. i think it was their attempt to try and slap me with a supercookie...who knows?

my sygate firewall (thanx book) sees most of these supposed updates as application hijacking.

Well Opera is better but I like both (firefox and opera)

I've been trying opera on an older machine for about 2 weeks now. I like it.. mostly. Speed is certainly better than FF or IE. Load time makes FF look pathetic.

When I downloaded flash player for opera, it installed google chrome! Didn't even ask me!
I also noticed they made the most terrible flash player possible for opera. Slow and wonky. By contrast, the chrome one is fast and works normally. The fact that adobe is trying to sabotauge it, tells me that opera is probably a really good choice.
