I would have, but I figured the guns and drugs strewn about my house would scare 'em. :D

We did have a good talk outside though. I didn't beat 'em down too bad.

They asked if I was familiar with the Book of Mormon and I told them I have one and have read it. That's when I mentioned kolob and becoming your own god and having your own planet and celestial sex and all that.

One looked to the other, who smiled a little and nodded in agreement. I asked "you all weren't planning on bringing up kolob were you?"

They said no. I said "that's probably because the church tells you not to".

They knew I knew. We continued our conversation, and I told them that their church misrepresents itself as a christian denomination, when it is something wholly different. I then told them that I am not a christian, and so I wasn't faulting them for their different beliefs, just their misrepresentation, which I realized was not their fault.

I also told them I know that mormonism is based on masonic rituals, and that they don't generally volunteer that information. They agreed. I told them that I appreciate being upfront when trying to convert someone, and not hiding one's belief behind something else, but I assured them that I knew they were just trying to be good mormons by hiding their core beliefs, even though I didn't agree with the church's deceit.

I then told them that I appreciate their church's family research centers, which I gratefully and freely used during the early years of my own genealogical research, and without a single person trying to discuss anything other than genealogy while I was there. No conversion attempts. I also said I thought it was good that they were taught to store food and taught to be good in general, and that generally mormons don't cause trouble.

They told me that I certainly know more about the mormon church than most! And handed me a mormon.org business card that showcase the diversity (black and mexican faces) of the mormon church. I didn't want to get into a big debate as to why that wasn't a "selling point" for me, so I just said: "I don't suppose there's anything about kolob on this site?"

One chuckled and said that the site had a lot on there, it just might!

I shook their hands, got their names, and they made their (amicable) escape.

we don't get many mormons knockin on the door around here...come to think of it, we don't get any religious groups knockin' on the door. the only door knockers we get are supporters of political candidates, and the odd marketing/sales person.
