There's some explaining to do in Longueuil after a police officer pulled out his sidearm and fired at an oncoming car.
At 8:30 p.m. Wednesday two officers were walking through the intersection of Hemard Ave. and Pare St. when a car went through a stop sign and barrelled toward them.
One officer pulled out his gun and fired at the car, sending a bullet through a door.
The driver then stopped, without hitting anyone or anything, and was immediately arrested and taken to a police station for questioning.
Police are not sure if the 56-year-old woman deliberately ran the stop sign and was trying to hit the officers, or if she simply did not see the sign and the people.
"During the night she was liberated on a summonses for vehicular assault," said Longueuil police officer Mark David.
People who live in the area did not see the incident, but the gunshot brought them outside or to their windows.
Many people told CTV reporter Stephane Giroux they heard the officers involved asking the driver if she was injured or hurt.
They also said the woman looked scared, and not like someone who was deliberately trying to run down pedestrians.
Before the shooting, police were in the neighbourhood because of reports of teenagers loitering on the grounds of a daycare.
After the incident the officer who fired his gun was taken to hospital and treated for shock.
Because nobody was hurt, the Internal Investigations department of the Longueuil police force will look into the matter.
...i wonder who is going to pay for the bullet hole in her car door??
