At the Denver Coin Expo yesterday afternoon I visited Dan Carr's table - he's the owner of the Moonlight Mint, and has been making 1oz gold coins for three years now commemorating one of the oldest private mints in Denver, the Clark Gruber Mint which produced gold coins for the Colorado area in 1860 and 1861. His latest is a 2011 150th anniversary of the 1861 $20 gold piece made by Clark Gruber & Co. This is a picture of the actual coin that inspired the new design:

So, he didn't actually have any for sale yesterday, because he didn't have enough time to strike them before the coin show, but he said they'd be ready to pick up today. I pre-ordered one and then he let me take a picture of the actual blank to be used to strike the coin. I'll post another picture later after I've picked it up!

For whatever reason I'm not finding the normal image managing tools when I'm posting, so the pics aren't sized appropriately. Sorry.

What kind of prmium does he get for those Madfranks?

It was a huge premium, but as a collector and a gold bug, I paid the premium because I wanted it for my collection. His in-show price: $2100.
