I think it's Sam Adams Winter brew. It's SO expensive but I can't help splurging for it. I'm drinking one now in fact. What's your favorite beer?

PBR

It won a blue ribon in 1893 after all.

One of my favorites is Anchorsteam. The true 'steam' beer, so they say. Another one, a lager, is Zywiec. It's hard to find, a Polish beer, but just love it. There's so many good beers out there, it's all a matter of personal taste, imo.

We do have our own resident beer expert, on board. When he posts about beer, it's good for a listen and a try. :)

shiner beer, when and if I could get it. It was my favorite by far.

It is an acquired taste , back in my beer drinking days ,back then it did have a limited distribution.

I for one don't drink......but today walking my dog I saw a beer can that was so small that, to me, it belonged in a doll house... to get drunk with that you would need one hundred of those tiny cans.

For cutting through dust and sweat on a hot summer day, nothing beats Coors Light. And I think Coors is the cleanest tasting of all the domestic lager beers; definitely a summer favorite. (And did you know that Coors Brewing Company makes Blue Moon?)

I remember, after a party, someone leaving in my fridge a 6 of Milwaukee's Best where it sat for 6 months before getting tossed.

Compared to 1970 when I could first buy beer, it's a beer lover's paradise now.

Compared to 1970 when I could first buy beer, it's a beer lover's paradise now. Yep, back in the day there were few choices.

Back then , for many in Texas , Pearl beer ruled! Knew the head brew master (family friend) Charley Rice, at the San antonio plant. When I did my basic training at lackland, and got my one day pass after training.

He came to the base in his corvette, and took me to the plant and dragged me into the cold room, and put me under a pigtail and turned the taps on. ;D I was under the drinking age at the time, but I was in uniform and age did not count!

That guy only drank beer, nothing else. By his say alone will a new batch will get canned/bottled or tossed.

a barleywine that won't upset my stomach, which is a tough call.

the best - Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale.

Also - Anderson Brothers' Triple.

i think Stone makes one along these lines.

also, Chimay has one, but it has a texture more like champagne than a thick heavy beer. Bigfoot is thick & heavy, tastes like it literally has vitamins in it.

since they have an alcohol content closer to wine than 'normal' beer, you have to modify how you drink it - or you'll be plowed. well, you'll probably get plowed anyway, but ...

Crisp, well balanced, about 7% alcohol, pineapple, pear, Saison Dupont yeast, not overly hopped but very refreshing, great with food or without...

Dammit, it's 9am here and now I want a beer.

A thirty pack is only fifteen bucks so it's afordable. It's the best beer for me because it's cheap entertainment, tastes good to me and no hangovers.;D

I really do like some local / regional Micro brews. The Northwest has some really great Micros When I lived in Portland.

Las Vegas actually had some really good ones. My favorite was a lil place Called the holy Cow, Big Dogs, the Brewery at the Main St. Station was great. Then of Course Gordon Biersch was excellent as well. Even the Brew at Ellis Island Brewery and Casino was pretty good

I'm Partial to Sam Adams also. I'm all stocked on Sam Adams Oktoberfest.. But all the seasonal Sams are great I think.

When it comes to beer, I'm a "swill" guy - I prefer the cheap, flavorless lagers. I've tasted some of the best, microbrews and rich, heavy IPA's, etc. but in general, I can only drink two or three of those before getting that "heavy, full, bloated" feeling. Something like Heineken, Coors, or Budweiser, on the otherhand, I can pound 'em until I'm happy - and still have room for dinner, sex, etc.! ;D

BTW, I absolutely DETEST light beers - haven't yet found one that's palatable! :o

Now, if I want to drink something for "flavor", give me a decent red wine or single malt Scotch over beer any day!

One of the major compounds in hops is lupulin, a moderately powerful sedative. A beer made with a high alpha acid hop (especially a late hopped one) will produce a sleepy effect, but it is usually short lived.

i learned one thing about growing hops - you have to water them, they don't water themselves.

and another thing - grasshoppers love them. they will eat until they are so fat they can't fly. they try to fly and you can literally hear the 'thud' when they hit the ground.

Well, the only time you're going to notice a sleepy effect is in a very highly hopped beer, like 100+ IBUs (West Coast IPAs), and then only if the beer is very fresh. All hops contain varying levels of lupulin, but a moderate amount of even high-lupulin hops isn't going to produce much of a sleepy effect.
