Related to me by an electrician who was in post-WWII Japan:


I would walk through crowds of Japanese on the sidewalks. They would walk straight ahead and you had to change your path to avoid collisions. When I had enough I would walk straight myself and eventually bounce one of these little people off my chest. After that it was like telepathy and the crowds of Japanese would part to stay out of my way.

Years later I was on vacation with my wife in Hawaii. Again we were faced with crowds of Japanese on the sidewalks. I told my wife "watch this" and proceeded to bounce one off my chest by walking straight. Again, as in Japan, it was as if there was a telepathic signal that went out and we could once again walk straight as the crowds parted.

Don't be sending out false signals that you are willing to divert your course while letting others take theirs. In the end analysis your actions control the actions of others.

Good point. The nastiest thing you can do to nasty people is to treat them with friendliness, respect and kindness.

They don't understand these concepts.

If you treat them with nasty then expect the same in return.

I consider cold or mean people to be projects, and I genuinely try to win them over to the light side.

I met a girl at work one day about 5 years ago, and I called her the Ice Princess, she was so cold. But, I worked on her, and she is one of my best friends now. What's weird is that she isn't cold at all. She's kind, smart, generous and funny. She's just one of those people who is standoffish at first.
