A six-month trial of late-night trains will begin this weekend – the result of a Facebook campaign that attracted about 30,000 supporters.

The 4am trains will run on all lines on Saturday and Sunday mornings until April, when its effectiveness will be assessed.

The trail will be supported by a vampire-themed advertising campaign, with a “Get Home Before Sunrise” theme.

Earlier this year, 23-year-olds Seb Brobie and Scott Brosens launched the facebook campaign to extend Perth’s late-night trains services after months of being unable to get home from a night of clubbing in Northbridge.

With the last train leaving the city at 2am, their only option was to join long queues for a taxi, even though they could barely afford the fares.

Many of the pair’s friends opted to sleep in Northbridge – on benches or in parks – until the 6am train arrived. Others were prepared to risk drink driving.
