A really close friend of mine's dobie, Cora is really close to passing away, and it's been determined that her final request is to go on a squirrel hunt.

Since she's old we're thinking a squirrel is going to have to be shot out of a tree, land, and then be put to rest via Cora.

So the question is, if I have a squirrel hunting license, yes they exist, can I use a .177 in lets say Bakersfield?

I do apologize if this is a stupid request, but my friend is really determined to do this, and I just want to make sure it's legal.

Here's the old girl 5 months ago, she's 11. You can see the drive and mind is still there, but the body is going away.

Sorry to hear about Cora.

I'd shoot the squirrel and then just claim self defense if anyone asks.

Oh come on. At the end of the day, this dog is a soldier.

This is her doing the Assassins Creed commercial in a car with 100 degree heat, and then the jews stiffed the owner because she wasn't union.

yeah I'd do this. Squirrels are pretty heavily armed from my experience so you can't be too careful

I mean this guy looks friendly enough but he could go all Blackwater on you without any notice.

But it's the Jedi ones you have to really watch out for IMO

If you shoot a Squirrel with a .177 pellet rifle, even one that has a muzzle velocity of less than 500 FPS, you will get a pass through shot.

My personal favorite ammo for squirrel is RWS pellets: Either the super points or the hollow points.

In Canada you need a small game licence, and you can only shoot them during the actual hunting season. You'll need to talk to the proper channels about the season and the licence if you really give a shit about keeping it legal.

However, if a squirrel is causing damage to your personal property, I think you can wack it as pest control and it wouldn't be considered poaching.

If I had youtube access from here, I would post the southpark clip with Stan and his uncle hunting: "They're coming right for us!"

EDIT

Re-reading your post, I saw this

Again, you know I'm in Canada, so it might be different, but the .177 pellet rifle is only considered a "Firearm" here is the muzzle velocity exceeds 500fps.
I believe our rules are, no hunting within city limits, and discharging of firearms within city limits.

So using a pellet rifle for pest control is something I am totally comfortable with, speaking for myself.

My beagle is 12 so I think about this a lot; what can I do for her last hurrah when the time comes. I was thinking about a small game trip complete with some t-bone steaks.

As far as the squirrel thing goes, you could set a squirrel trap or just use a pellet gun.

A couple of months before I had to euthanize my 10 y.o. Dobermann Gracie I let her kill a 'possum. She definitely enjoyed it although it didn't help her longevity.

Best wishes with your squirrel hunt.
