No permit needed to purchase a pistol? I have a number of rifles but I always thought I needed a permit for a pistol. What about background checks and such?

Depends on what state you live in.
In Washington you need to be 21 for pistols and 18 for rifles that is the only difference. The only permit required of me is if you want to carry concealed.
