They just finished topping off my main heating oild tank and it took 144 gallons.....divided by 365 it came down to 0.497 gallon average per day......don't tell me that the sun heat box does not work, keeping thermo to 58 degrees.

With all my other barrels full I now have fuel for four plus years.......bring it on.

Four cords of wood in stock for my wood stove (in case WTSHTF last more than four years and I can't get any more kerosene) and the forest is my back yard.....looking good Ponce, looking good :)

By the way, the price per gallon of heating fuel is up to $3.82........ten years ago it was $1.44

The reason that I top off my fuel tanks every year is because some day the price will either go sky high or I wont be able to buy it..........be ready today for the way that you want to live tomorrow.

Dont forget that your heating oil is a source for transportaion fuel as well if you own a diesel vehicle.

"heating oil" is nothing more than red dyed #2 low sulfer 500ppm diesel.

And they also enhanced it a little bit more for use as aviation fuel........ I also do have 44 gallons of the white one for my lamps.

my father wanted to top up his tank and when he called the fuel oil co., they said according to their records, he hasn't had a "technician" come and clean his combination (wood/oil) furnace. he told them that he didn't need to pay someone to do something he is fully capable of doing himself, and that he has maintained his furnace immaculately for many years.

they told him that's all well and good, but if he wanted them to top off the tank, he would have to have a "certified technician" come and clean his furnace. he told them that was ridiculous, and that just last winter he finally got the thing "dialed in" and it now runs about 87% efficiency. this has been confirmed by an in-law that is in the heating/cooling business.

not bad for a furnace that is almost 20 years old.

when he told me all this, my reply was "FUCK 'EM!"

i added "you already have about 175 gallons in the tank, (he only uses the oil when he gets up in the morning to take the chill off while he stokes up the wood burning side, or when he is away for more than a day.) why not just fill up a few jerry cans with diesel, get some conditioner for it, and add it to the oil tank?"

he thought that was an excellent idea, and since that discussion, he has taken it one step further...

the in-law occasionally has to remove older or outdated fuel oil tanks, and they usually have some oil in them. sometimes a considerable amount. so now, when they remove the tanks and the oil, the tanks get recycled, and the oil gets filtered, and set aside for dad. this works good for both parties since dad get the fuel for free, and the in-law no longer has to pay to recycle it as hazardous waste.

of course, if the wrong arse holes got wind of it, they would try to intervene. but for now, it's essentially a win/win scenario...

the old boy still has something rattling around between his ears...lol ;D
