Chickens can recognize each other by their facial features. They have 24 distinct cries that communicate information to one other, including separate alarm calls depending on whether a predator is traveling by land or sea. They are good at solving problems. 'As a trick at conferences I sometimes list these attributes, without mentioning chickens, and people think I'm talking about monkeys,' Mr. Evans said.

Perhaps most persuasive is the chicken's intriguing ability to understand that an object, when taken away and hidden, nevertheless continues to exist. This is beyond the capacity of small children."

The actual IQ of any thing is hard to measure accurately, esp when comparing to a different species, but various sources state that it is 6-7. Even if your chicken has a higher IQ of 8-9, it will still end up as a source of food for hungry souls.

I don't know about chickens but turkeys are pretty damn smart for real. If a few of them get killed in a certain spot and in acertain way the others have it figured out and stay the f away. They're smarter than people.

Went on a turkey hunt and while trying to stalk up on them I found they were leading me further and further into the swamp. I think Ben Franklin wanted a turkey instead of an eagle as the national bird.

That is a amazing. Last time I saw turkeys they were blocking the small country road. There was several of them, big ones too. This is in an area where hunting was prohibited. I just stopped and admired them. Beautiful birds, and very large too. I wonder how they knew I wouldn't try and run them over. Perhaps they were prepared for that. They really seemed like they were intentionally blocking the road though.. as there was no room for me to drive around them.

Years ago, I got attacked by a turkey as well. Actually he bluffed at the last minute. I was hiking and the trail was along a steep hill, and the bird came out of some bushes and charged right at my head, which was level with the side of the trail's embankment. He then put on a big show puffing up and all. I've always been fascinated by them.

If you ever are in need of an attack bird get a goose or swan, mean suckers.

I've killled and eaten a lot of wild turkeys. They are awesomly intuitive about being staulked. When they are aware they are being staulked they vanish. I wish people were more like wild turkeys. If they were the Jews would starve to death.

I can imagine a goose being mean, but picturing a swan is tough they are so graceful.

Seagulls can be mean. At work I got close to a nest by accident, and they made a big commotion about it. About 10 of them from different angles flew right at me, and at the last second went right over my head. From a distance, they lined right up on me. Birds know to go for people's heads, when attacking, which is pretty smart.

Ducks though, seem really stupid. Maybe it's just the urban ones, because at night they will stand on one leg and go to sleep. You could walk right up to them and punt them like a football if you wanted to. In a shtf situation, I'll be eating duck around here. :)

I thought peacocks were the guard birds.

Turkey, geese, swans and peacocks can all get a little territorial.

I used to fish golf course lakes when I was a kid and this swan would always swim over and harass me.

Pretty bird but meaner than all get out.lol

Grandpa had a goose named Charlie, He was the meanest bird I've ever seen, He'd run after you when you came up to the gate, get his feather all puffed up and try and peck at your ankles. He was a mean bird. ;)

Geese make great watch birds, nothing enters their area without them raising pure hell! Know some people that keep them just for that reason. Plus, the excess birds make dam fine eating!

Chickens with high IQs? How do the test administrators get them to fill in those little ovals?

It's the "punch out" kind... they peck the right answers with their beeks. Of course, there's some room to doubt the results, with all the hanging "chads" from when they change their minds... or just plain get hungry! :)
