Police body slam leaves grandpa bloody, unconscious at Wal-Mart

Witnesses say police officers tackled a grandfather at an Arizona Wal-Mart Friday, leaving him bloody and unconscious.

The video game section of the Buckeye store got a little rowdy when people started trying to tear open boxes of games, and one woman got punched.
After one man’s grandson got trampled, he put the video game he was holding in his waistband in order to free up his hands and lift the boy out of the crowd, according to KSAZ (http://www.myfoxphoenix.com/dpp/news/business/black-friday-brawl-at-buckeye-walmart-11252011).

That’s when cops moved in, slamming the grandfather’s head on the hard Wal-Mart floor. The aftermath was caught on cell phone video (http://youtu.be/nE03xl9cUns).

“Are you sure that was necessary for shoplifting?” one customer asked as the cops cuffed the unconscious man, his head lying in a pool of blood.

“You done knocked the motherfucker out,” another shopper said. “That’s your ******* job.” As an officer rolled the man over, it became obvious that he was out cold. Another officer quickly found that more than paper towels were needed to clean up the mess.

“They grabbed the guy, body planted him into the ground — face shatters on concrete,” shopper Skyler Stone told KSAZ. “That’s a hard concrete floor inside Walmart.”

“All of a sudden, you see this little boy run up and wailing and yelling, ‘Grandpa, Grandpa,’ and crying his eyes out,” Stone added. Buckeye police claimed that their actions were justified, and that the cell phone video only showed the aftermath. They also said in-store security cameras failed to capture skirmish.
The suspect has been identified as 54-year-old Jerald Newman. He was charged after being treated at a local hospital.

While the incident is under investigation, the officer in question is still on the job.

All of this violence is completely uncalled for. All this over a damn $40 item? This makes no sense at all. But for the so-called "protectors" and so-called law enforcers to be doling out this kind of brutality proves that they have declared war on the people and are lawless thugs. When "security" personnel act like this you know that the wrong people are being hired and the training is for paramilitary storm troopers, not peace officers. I am so damn disgusted with this crap. I've curtailed my purchases to the bare necessities only. If the retailers hire thugs like this then let them rot in hell for all I care - they will not get my business.

I suppose that depends upon the extent of any permanent disabilities* and how good of a shyster he gets.

*dunno if there's any 'bright side' to permanent disabilities as a result of this

Oh a settlement with tax dollars? I don't see a bright side when tax dollars are making the payout.

Especially in the electronics section, probably the highest target area for thefts in the whole store!!

The cameras saw that shit alright, the one that I used to work at (yes, I've worked every crap job imaginable) had asset protection in a control room manually controlling the cameras. If something like this happened they would be ALL over it. Even if this store did not have manually controlled cameras, the auto cameras would be focused on electronics as EVERYONE steals from electronics.

Like I said in the waffle iron thread, this is the time of year that I lose any hope that I had left for my fellow Americans.

In my original post I should have included some sarcasm re: bright side.

Tax dollars? I would think going after wally world would be a whole lot more lucrative and an easier payday in the short run.

It was a taxpayer funded pig that did the body slamming if I read the original article correct.

Don't the taxpayer coffers take president over wally worlds bank accounts?

They were probably hired to work security in their off hours and remained in uniform. We used to hire a couple at the store in peak times and they remained in uniform.

Is it possible some of those "cameras" up there aren't really cameras at all, but rather decoys mixed in with the real cameras to make you think they have tons of them everywhere?
...and even if they're all real, they can only capture what they're pointed at.

Also, I thought to actually be charged with shoplifting you had to first attempt to leave the store with the item in question.
...and why would they need to have uniformed cops in the aisles of the store watching for shoplifters if they really have all those cameras to watch people with?

Check out these shoplifters caught on video at WalMart.
