View Full Version : Opened up the door with 75 mile per hour gusts and now I got a sparrow flying around

LMAO I've had calamity in the house for the past 20 minutes.

I live up in the hills of Pasadena and it's just blasting. I opened the door to check it out, and a sparrow flies in. I say come on you guys, to get them in to the bed room and while one dog, Shelby is in her crate, only Indy comes to the bed room. I'm like what the fuck. Open up the front door and there's Enzo in the middle of the yard with this look of like, "This is way fucking cool". Get him the house. Now let deal with this poor bird.

Chased her around for about 10 minutes and FINALLY she was on the floor and I gently threw a towel over her and then released her.

Just sharing but I will say this, the winds are really pounding from the Santa Ana's and I venture to guess there's going to be a lot damage in L.A.

Yeah, of course. I think it's cool as long a tree doesn't fall on my truck or 911. But I can sense the sheep getting all crazy when the power stops. I keep hearing sirens. Just a bit of wind builds caos, imagine the real fricken deal. These fuckers will be dead with a week.

This is the 7th power outage since I started this thread.

Last summer I posted that a bird came down my chimney, I opened the door and it came flying out...it went to the kitchen and then it was a race between my now dead cat and myself to see who would get to it first.......I was the winner :) , I the put it out the door.

I remember the Santa Anna winds in San Diego, people freaked out , but being a kid , thought they were way cool, liked to fight them. Being small 60-70 lbs at the time, would get blown down.

I'm sure it has, but I don't remember the wind being this strong before... lots of traffic outside, I'm surprised... the fire dept. is going nuts... sirens all around...

Ha ha. Flatlanders :) It's howling up here at 5200' but the power's still on. My dogs' wading pool has set sail and trees will be down in the morning. It's supposed to hit 100+ mph up here tonight, but it does this every year. The wind is 130mph at the top of Mammoth Mountain(el. 11,053) right now in the eastern Sierra according to a friend on the other line. Sounds like white water rapids outside and I think the wind chimes are gone.

Shit man power is still out, so I go to get coffee and a neighbors tree is blocking the entire road, and since I live on a culdusac I'm fucked. Gonna take some video i a few.

Normally with SA winds, the air is crystal clear because everything gets blown out to sea. As they were kicking up here yesterday evening, a marine layer was blowing in over the mountains in the opposite direction. This morning it is quite cloudy, but still windy. As far as I thought I knew, that wasn't really possible.

Stay well, my neighbors to the north!

Maybe check if anyone on the street has a super duty truck with a winch, to pull the tree out of the way?

edit add: being California, please check with local authorities if any laws prohibit the touching or moving of downed trees.
I wouldn't want to see you fined or possibly imprisoned for being a good neighbor and citizen.

I woke up to power out, 29 degrees out and blizzard conditions with shit all over the roads on the drive down. Here at the office, it's 57 degrees and breezy, with shit all over the roads. I'm going to have to throw on the snow tires to avoid chaining up for the drive back up if the snow ends up sticking.

Not getting into chetrails/winds. But the Santa Ana winds can and do carry a serious health risk.

The winds carry Coccidioides immitis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccidioides_immitis) and Coccidioides posadasii (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccidioides_posadasii) spores into nonendemic areas,[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-11)[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-Sherris-12) a pathogenic fungus that causes Coccidioidomycosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccidioidomycosis) ("Valley Fever"). Symptomatic infection (40% of cases) usually presents as an influenza-like illness with fever, cough, headaches, rash, and myalgia (muscle pain).[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-Sherris-12) Serious complications include severe pneumonia, lung nodules, and disseminated disease, where the fungus spreads throughout the body. The disseminated form of Coccidioidomycosis can devastate the body, causing skin ulcers, abscesses, bone lesions, severe joint pain, heart inflammation, urinary tract problems, meningitis, and often death.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-13)
The United States government worked on a vaccine for Coccidioidomycosis during the mid-1960s, in the hopes of weaponizing C. immitis for use as an incapacitant. But the work was abandoned when medical epidemiology uncovered lethal effects on several segments of the population, and C. immitis was reclassified as a lethal agent.[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-14)
The winds also create positive ions which affects people's mood negatively, and statistics show increases in the number of suicides and homicides. [16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-15)[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_Ana_winds#cite_note-16)

Wow, that's crazy wind, y'all!Yup... too bad you missed those when you were out! Thankfully not too bad where I'm at; although there were a few temporary power outages. Nothing as bad as where GoD and Ximmy are, to be sure. I'll say it again - it is seriously weird to have these wind conditions AND so many clouds and debris. Dust, trash and foliage get blown around usually, but the atmospheric conditions this time around are VERY unusual. Having lived in SoCal over three decades, I've done a lot of Santa Ana's, and I don't remember ever seeing it like this.
