ATLANTA (WGCL/CNN) – A Georgia man's quest for mistletoe landed him in jail when he decided to open fire on private property.
"I have done that for years and years, but never in the city limits," said Bill Robinson.
Robinson was at Atlanta's North DeKalb Mall's parking lot when he decided to use his shotgun in an attempt to get a batch of mistletoe.
"Every year I go somewhere to get mistletoe to decorate the house and get some for my friends that can't get mistletoe," Robinson said.
The mistletoe, which is more than a way to lure someone into a kiss, is also a parasite that grows in trees and shrubs. Robinson says he would have gone to his neighbor's house for mistletoe, but he was not home at the time.
"I didn't want to go shooting in his yard if he wasn't home," Robinson said.
Instead of shooting up his neighbor's property, he went to the mall's parking lot where someone saw him take the shot and attempted to honk their horn to stop him.
"I waved at him," Robinson said.
With a wave, Robinson's hunt for mistletoe was over.
"They had no idea what I was up to," Robinson said. "I went ahead, got the mistletoe up, gathered it and left. Next thing I know I am surrounded."
DeKalb police arrested Robinson and booked him into the DeKalb County Jail. He is charged with reckless conduct and firing a gun on private property.
"I will get the mistletoe next year, but it will be somewhere else," Robinson said. "It'll be way out in the country."
