Venezuela helps US poor's with energy.

Thu Dec 22, 2011 6:56PM GMT

Venezuela has launched its energy assistance program for the seventh consecutive year, which helps poor Americans to pay for their home heating oil during the winter, Press TV reports.

The aid, which is provided by Citgo, a branch of the Venezuelan state oil company, PDVSA, will be received by more than 400,000 poor Americans next year, a Press TV correspondent reported on Thursday.

Citgo's president, Alejandro Granado, has said that rising energy costs continue to affect millions of Americans, impairing their quality of life.

Granado added that his company does not want the US families to be forced to choose between keeping their homes heated, and paying for other basic needs like food or medicines.

“United States is not all roses like people think there are lots of people under poverty, below their standards” Oil industry analyst, Elio Ohep says.

The heating oil program began in 2005, following the aftermath of hurricanes Rita and Katrina. The PDVSA's subsidiary has so far invested over 400 million dollars in energy assistance for US citizens facing economic hardship.

You cant expect the US to provide it's poor with heating oil...
clear your mind and consider priorities
Israel must not suffer the loss of taxpayer money...

The U.S. is providing Israel with at least $8.2 million each day* (http://www.ifamericaknew.org/stats/usaid.html#source) in military aid.... during Fiscal Year 2011.

reuters.com: Amber Energy plans to hold on to Citgo refineries after takeover (https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/amber-energy-plans-hold-citgo-refineries-after-takeover-2025-12-01/)

December 1, 2025
Elliott Investment Management's affiliate Amber Energy plans to keep Citgo Petroleum's refineries, terminals and other connected assets once it takes over the Venezuela-owned U.S. refiner, following the completion of a court-ordered auction, sources close to the preparations said...

The sale needs approval from the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control. Citgo and its Venezuelan-owned parent companies are appealing the auction results and the sale order, which means there is still a level of uncertainty to the takeover.

Considered the crown jewel of Venezuela's foreign assets, Citgo's 829,000 barrel-per-day refining network is a sophisticated operation supported by 43 terminals and 4,000 independently owned retail outlets across the U.S. The Houston-based company, which is the seventh largest U.S. refiner, employs some 3,300 workers...

Once the sale is completed, Amber's leadership, led by refining experts Greg Goff and Jeff Stevens, is expected to shake up Citgo's board to remove some top executives before introducing cost-cutting measures to boost profits, the sources said.

December 3, 2025
Vice President and Oil Minister Delcy Rodriguez said Caracas "strongly rejects" the ruling, which approved the sale of Citgo’s parent, PDV Holding, as part of a court-supervised process.

Reading a statement on state television, she called the move "fraudulent" and insisted the government had never recognised the judicial procedure.commondreams.org: Meet Paul Singer, the Billionaire Trump Megadonor Set to Make a Killing on Venezuela Oil (https://www.commondreams.org/news/paul-singer-venezuela)

Jan 05, 2026
In November 2025, less than two months before Trump’s operation to take over Venezuela, Singer’s investment firm, Elliott Investment Management, inked a highly fortuitous deal.

It purchased Citgo, the US-based subsidiary of Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, for $5.9 billion—a sale that was forced by a Delaware court after Venezuela defaulted on its bond payments.

The court-appointed special master who forced the sale, Robert Pincus, is a member of the board of directors for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Elliott Management hailed the court order requiring the sale in a press release, saying it was “backed by a group of strategic US energy investors.”

Singer acquired the Citgo’s three massive coastal refineries, 43 oil terminals, and more than 4,000 gas stations at a “major discount” because of its distressed status. Advisers to the court overseeing the sale estimated its value at $11-13 billion, while the Venezuelan government estimated it at $18 billion.

As [Judd Legum reported (https://popular.info/p/venezuela-raid-enriches-maga-billionaire) on Monday for Popular Information] explained, the Trump administration’s embargo on Venezuelan oil imports to the United States bore the primary responsibility for the company’s plummeting value:

Citgo’s refiners are purpose-built to process heavy-grade Venezuelan “sour” crude. As a result, Citgo was forced to source oil from more expensive sources in Canada and Colombia. (Oil produced in the United States is generally light-grade.) This made Citgo’s operations far less profitable.

...After the US abducted Maduro this week, Trump named Rodriguez as Venezuela’s interim president—and she was formally sworn in Monday—but he warned that she’ll pay a “very big price” if she refuses to do “what we want.”
