i love listening to mining & metallurgy videos like that.

it's not a video, but i thought this slideshow of the Bjorkdahl mine in Sweden was pretty cool. they've mined 1 million ounces - using concentrator tables to isolate the natural gold alloy. similar to the silver mine, up till the ball mill part.

i wonder if the balls in the ball mill need to be pure iron, so that they don't impart any impurities to the ore being refined. i wonder if it's one of those situations where the extra alloys in a steel alloy are not helpful.
