This is the hair-raising moment a Chinese soldier almost killed himself after fluffing hand grenade practice.

Footage of the army training exercise shows the soldier preparing the hand grenade to throw it under the watchful eye of his drill sergeant.

However, the new recruit fails miserably and throws it into a wall in front of him and it promptly bounces off and falls into the ditch where he's standing.

Luckily for him, his quick thinking captain drags him to safety with just seconds to spare.

The mistake, which could have proved fatal, was filmed in China and posted on You Tube.

It has received almost 200,00 hits and was covered by TV stations in the country.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the botched training exercise.

The same as when I was in basic training......but.......there was no ditch around us from where the granedes were sent out, the kid put his arm back and the granede fell IN THE NEST, the Sgt pick it up and sent it out......... that ditch around them in the nest is a VERY good idea.......I wonder if our armed forces picked up on this and are doing now the same thing.

Happens all the time.

In the USA the hole is slanted and a deep pit is in one end the "Pit Boss'" job is to kick the bobbled grenade into the hole.

Best to not piss off the First Shirt when grenade training time comes around, so you don't get promoted to Pit Boss.

That's right, I forgot that we did have a grenade hole.....as a matter of fact when ever we made a fox hole we were supposed to make one of them.
