“American Idol” winner
Kelly Clarkson: “I Love Ron Paul”
Truth rating: 10 Kelly Clarkson Ron Paul

Just days before the critical Iowa caucus, Ron Paul has secured a major endorsement – from Kelly Clarkson.

The “American Idol” winner expressed her support for the Republican presidential candidate on Twitter.

“I love Ron Paul,” Clarkson wrote on Thursday. “I liked him a lot during the last republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”

She explained, “Ron Paul is about letting people decide, not the government. I am for this.”

The “Miss Independent” singer’s support for Paul immediately angered many of her Twitter followers, however, leading her to insist that she did not believe in some controversial opinions attributed to Paul.

“I have never heard that he’s a racist? I definitely don’t agree with racism, that’s ignorant,” Clarkson wrote to one fan.

She also clarified that she supports gay rights.

“I love all people and could care less if you like men or women,” tweeted Clarkson, adding, “I have never seen or heard Ron Paul say anything against gay people?”

In a longer message, Clarkson set the record straight about her politics.

“I am really sorry if I have offended anyone,” she wrote. “Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism. I support gay rights, straight rights, women’s rights, men’s rights, white/black/purple/orange rights. I like Ron Paul because he believes in less government and letting the people (all of us) make the decisions and mold our country. That is all. Out of all the Republican nominees, he’s my favorite.”

I never heard of Kelly Clarkson. The caliber of voter who values the opinions of an "American Idol" is the kind who would vote for Alobama.

I know many former ZeroBama lovers that have no problem admitting they were wrong and are seriously looking to do things differently this time around.

For many AI devotees, Kelly Clarkson's endorsement is all they need to throw their support behind RP. Lame, but that's life in the US today.

To us it's superficial BS but if only one other person votes for RP is that not a win?

Just think of the millions of couch potatos out there that have no concern for anything but their favorite idol, to have the queen winner of idol's endorse Ron. This god of an American idol's probably will sway many to vote?

Yes we'll take the win...now if they will only get off the couch and go vote?

Of course they will. And later in the day at work they will be wearing their "I voted" lapel pins.

geesh a bit harsh guys, LOL- I don't like AmerIdol either, but I do remember following it's first season, and she was the 1st winner, after the 2nd & 3rd seasons it was nothing but hype. She's a pretty smart girl actually, plus she's a fellow Texan that grew up not far from my hometown in FT.Worth, so I'm glad she's backing up RP. Whether you approve or not, celeb backup works wonders, just like it did for the previous elected Puppets Of The United States.

After reading MR's thread about NOT needing this endorsement, I reread the OP in this thread, and I think he's right - subliminal suggestion is what this is:

Too bad he probably won’t.
“I have never heard that he’s a racist? I definitely don’t agree with racism, that’s ignorant,” Clarkson wrote to one fan.
“I am really sorry if I have offended anyone,” she wrote. “Obviously that was not my intent. I do not support racism."

Remember, Kelly Clarkson is their creation, and a weapon in their arsenal, not ours.
