Got a Saab? Get rid of it before everyone realizes there's no longer manufacturer support for it and the value plummets.

As I was back in Sweden last week for christmas, I read that used Saab prices had plunged about 25% vs other autobrands, during the last year. I think though if you are in a location with a reasonable amount of Saabs around, you will be able to find most spareparts, from scrapped SAABs at junkyards etc, and for the most common wear and tear parts there will be manufacturing too. Another idea is to buy a used Saab with 25% discount, and use the difference to load up on parts, like a gearbox, a turbo, some special electronic components etc. If the SHTF, you are ahead of the rest in terms of transportation preparedness... Not that a Saab may be the ultimate vehicle to get out of Dodge with anyway...

Is the whole company kaput or just the auto division? They have or had a fairly hefty military division. World renowned for manufacturing anti personel mines and/or cluster bombs. Also military aircraft as well. I can't recall exactly but there was that whole thing about land mines going back to the days of Lady Diana who campaigned against the use of land mines.

Sorta sorry to see them go, very safe cars, and people loved to beat up on them, they were tough.

You make some good points, however there are some items which are necessary to keep the car roadworthy which are 'dealer items' only e.g. ignition switches, turn signal switches, brake light switches, taillight and sidemarker lenses, etc. and other parts which are unique to Saabs and no alternatives are there to be found.

Having a Saab is now truly a Saab story...
