What are the exact weight and dimensions, specifically the thickness? That is a damn good fake, damn good.

The only test I have done is specific gravity. It came back at 11.00, it should be 10.5. It is a damn good fake, the best I've seen yet.

I watched the video, what does the coin in question weigh? And I was flinching watching your filing technique; I was afraid you were going to hit yourself in the head! :o

Everything has to be weighed now... I just got a scale and have been experimenting with it.

There was a guy on GIM who swore he had a fake gold philharmonic. In the end, he concluded it was a 90% gold alloy fake, which I concluded is ridiculous. I think that was was totally genuine; the 10% variance was well within the imprecision of the density measurement. And who the hell would make a 90% gold fake - for the 10% skim? I don't think so.

Yeah, The Skeptic? That was a classic.

I ended up with the coin and tested the hell out of it compared to another Philharmonic and it was the same.

Yeah, I remember the skeptic. I wish he was a member here, I was a fan of his. :)

All this discussion reminded me of that long drawn out philharmonic thread on GIM. Glad everyone else remembered his name, that was driving me crazy trying to remember his name!!!

If you look closely at the details, there is no doubt that China one is a fake. Just look at the leaf detail and look at the expression of ronald McDonald...er...I mean her majesty.

I would like to see one of the fake Maples up close... I'm assuming they won't have the identifying grainy look that a real Maple has.

Sound alone has to give that fake away right?

You're right, the leaf details are cartoonish compared to real-------for now.

I think the sound produced when the coin is being filed is enough to make me think its fake.

Only a hard material makes that high pitched sound. I though silver was pretty soft.

I could be wrong though.

I always weigh and measure one of my coins when I get a bunch. This thread makes me want to do a 100% check though.

I'm not seeing it in the video or the stills. It looks like a light angle difference in the stills.

Nice catch, an obvious difference (but like you said...for now)

I still want to know what the fake coin weighs. I use weight as my primary determinant of authenticy.
