Video: iHealth Smart GlucoMeter Tests Blood Sugar With Your Phone

There’s nothing especially pleasant about having to constantly check your blood sugar levels, but diabetics may soon have another tech-savvy option for maintaining long-term records of how it changes.
The Smart GlucoMeter from iHealth is a detachable dongle that snaps onto the bottom of your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. You take a sample of blood on one of iHealth’s test strips, slip the strip into the bottom of the dongle, and the iHealth app registers your glucose level, catalogs it, and even charts it for you over time. Users can also set up push notifications to help remind them when it’s time to check their levels, and an extensive educational section drops knowledge and tips and how to control diabetes most effectively.
There’s no set retail price on the Smart GlucoMeter, as it is still undergoing FDA approval, but iHealth reps are confident it will be cleared for sale some time during the second half of this year.
