WTF, each senator has over a 3 million dollar budget?
Freshman Sen. Rand Paul (http://www.politico.com/tag/RandPaul) is making good on his promise to cut federal spending. The Kentucky Republican and tea-party favorite said Thursday he’s returning $500,000 to the U.S. Treasury (http://www.politico.com/tag/treasurydepartment) -- money from his operating budget that his office never spent.
The half million dollars represents about 16 percent of Paul’s annual budget, and he contends no senator has returned as much to taxpayers.

But if he's not spending the money he mustn't be doing his job properly. Chuck him out! /sarc
that's a sizable saving. How many critters @ $500k each?
535 @ $500K = $267, 500, 000.00. sneeze

You'll never, ever see anyone else besides his dad give a dime back.

Rand Paul 2020.
this is a very interesting move.
it makes me think that he might choose his son as VP after all.

I actually think Rand Paul would be in a better position to effect positive change in 2020 than Ron Paul would be in 2012, because there are some inevitable dominoes that are going to fall in the next five years no matter who is president.
The upside to an Obama win (horrors!) would be that it would actually position Rand Paul for a 2016 run.

No, I don't think RP believes he can win right now. That's why RP does so many speeches at colleges, so he's setting it up for his son in 2016 or 2020. Get them while they're young.

I agree. Although I wish him the best in 2012, I think his greatest value ultimately will be that he is helping to alter the mindset of an entire generation, and it's the generation that's going to be picking up the pieces and setting them straight a decade from now. This might be his legacy.
