As someone who was once married to a woman who was really into horses, the only was the horses could be described as an asset would be as in "your ass sets here".

$500k in horses is peanuts compared to what some of those racing horses (and Racing Horse Farms) in TN/Kentucky are worth. There is HUGE money in horse races. ONE horse could easily be worth $500k if it is a winner...more like multiple millions especially for a young kentucy derby winner with a long stud career ahead of it.

Also, I would love to have $500k in gold...hell, I'd love to have $500k in anything.

If you made ~$22M last year and ~$20M the year before, you would have lots of silver and gold also. . Given his income/worth, that's kinda like you or I holding ONE OR TWO OUNCES of gold. . .

I dunno. If there's a financial meltdown and Romney is sitting there with a couple hundred ounces of gold, what position will he be in compared to the average Joe? Still sitting pretty, I'd say. Need to give him some credit for owning major physical, regardless of what fraction of his net worth it represents.
