Penny key dates/mint marks

I'm sorting out copper from a bunch of pennies. I'm pulling out all the wheat cents as a novelty.

I'm assuming there is nothing collectible about any of the zincs. Correct?

The only NON-wheat collectibles I have seen listed are the 1970S small date, and of course any mint errors that might exist.

Are there any others from 1959-1982 that I should look for. Or that would even be worth searching through thousands of coins? Wheats stand out and are easy to separate. Dates take a lot of time.

When I sort pennies, the only one I purposefully keep an eye out for is the 1955 double die, it's worth about $800 in mint condition:

there's always the 1960-D and 1960 plain (from Philadelphia, no mint mark) - SMALL DATE.

the "0" is a smaller size - those are the more rare ones. the 1960 plain 'small date' is much more rare than the 1960-D 'small date'.

Never heard of that before. Here's an answer from a quick google search.


This is a novelty item known as a "Lincoln Facing Kennedy" penny.
Many of these were manufactured by private individuals in the 1970's as an advertising gimmick. They would take a normal penny (dates will vary) and stamp Kennedy's image into the coin. Then they would attach the coin to a card, which would have listed the "Astonishing Coincidences" between the two presidents. Ususally these cards would also have some kind of advertisement for a local business at the bottom.

I have sold many of these Lincoln-Kennedy pennies over the years for $1.00 apiece, and carded ones for $2.50 each.

Sigh... that was on GIM1, and it was lost when said forum went down. I suppose I could start it again here, but I put a good couple hours into that tutorial and I'll need to find the time to do it again. :'(

It was in the numismatics sub-forum. If it was saved that's good but to reproduce it here would mean re-linking and formatting all the photos, which isn't hard but it takes a little time. If anyone has it, I'd be grateful and would do my best to reproduce it here.
