I got my free sample, a 3.17 oz package of freeze dried Chicken a la King. Put a cup of boiling water in, let it set for 8-10 minutes, and eat out of the pouch. It's not too bad, pretty salty but better than the typical MRE type meal. I like the fact that the food is rated for 25 years of storage time, which is nice because I bought some emergency food from Emergency Essentials about 5-6 years ago that's now past it's "best by" date. Anyone have any opinions on Daily Bread?

I ordered my free sample I hope it is better than that low calorie overpriced Wise stuff.

My personal favorites are:

Prepair it = E-foods, Do it your self and the LDS church

For just add water = Mountian House

For just eat = MRE's

I am always looking for better stuff.

Thanks for the link

I Just orderd a few various things from Honeyville.

Freeze dried is one thing I am very short on. Because we can/jar a goodly porition of our own preps, the cost of freeze dried has always been very prohibitive to us. I finaly broke down and got a few things to sample, including whole eggs, butter, carrots, banannas, etc. Mostly this is for us to test in baking, but DAMN that stuff adds up quick.

Forget about freeze dried meat. 45-50 bucks for a #10 can?! OUCH!

we're like you. we can + dehydrate a ton of stuff. i buy freeze dried just so i have some portion of stuff that i don't have to rotate. i can not worry about it for 20 years.

speaking of bread ... i save bread crumbs. i shake out the crumbs from all the bags into a plastic tub, then once a month it becomes a snack for 3 chickens. it's probably one of their favorite foods. they peck away fervently until every bit of bread is gone.

if i put it in a metal dish, it sounds like a chicken rhythm section !

"Trevor" called me today to ask me some questions.

He admitted that this product is Mountian House This came out when I told him what kind of LTS food I store. And he said:

"You store Mountian House?....... well you know exactly what this will taste like because it IS Mountian House......"

So there you go folks they package rebadged Mountian House into "kits".

I still asked for my sample though I have not eaten every single Mtn house entree yet.

Hope that helped.

Well, its 2012 and just like the y2k hype the whole long term prep stuff is going to explode as we get closer to December. You can be sure all these major companies (wise, MH, etc) are going to be creating shell companies or repackaging their products for small time shops at high markups.

its also a massive election year with extreme economic uncertainty, political uncertainty and social unrest.

Its going to be an interesting year.

yep. my walmart sells mountain house individual bags. i always pick one up whenever i'm there, and then i toss it in a bucket in my prep room. lately, the stock at walmart is pretty empty. people are buying them. two years ago, full- all of the time.
