So here we have the USS Enterprise, the oldest carrier in the fleet, on her last legs, scheduled to be decommissioned next year. Her name is well known, in part because of the Star Trek TV series. Decommissioning a nuclear aircraft carrier is a very expensive process. USS Enterprise is powered by 8 nuclear reactors, all of which must be disposed of as nuclear waste material along with all the associated machinery. The US Navy would save a great deal of money, more than the scrap worth of the steel, if USS Enterprise were to be sunk in the Persian Gulf, where the radioactive mess is someone else's problem to deal with.

Would be sad way for her to end her service like that. I was stationed aboard that ship when I was in the Navy back in the mid 90's. I was hoping they would turn her into a museum so it could be some place I could take my kids to see.

An American political commentator says Israel may stage an attack against American ships in the Persian Gulf to draw the US into war with Iran.
In an interview with Press TV, James Morris said Israel may resort to a ploy similar to the USS Liberty incident and "stage an attack against an American ship to draw the US into war against Iran."
In 1967, during the Six-Day War between Israel and some of the Arab states, the Israeli Air Force attacked the USS Liberty, an American technical research ship, north of the Sinai Peninsula, northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.
The attack killed 34 crew members, wounded 170, and severely damaged the ship. After conducting inquiries, the Israeli and US government issued reports that concluded the attack was a mistake due to Israel's confusion about the identity of the USS Liberty.

The carrier is days from arrival in the Arabian Sea. Timely bump.
Some interesting tidbits about the USS Enterprise, should 'they' in fact be planning to sink it under the FF premise.
From this article, c/o NavyTimes:
Carrier Enterprise retools mental health at sea (http://www.navytimes.com/news/2012/02/navy-carrier-enterprise-retools-mental-health-afloat-022012w/)
The Fuzzy Bunny makeover is part of Enterprise’s efforts to manage stress more effectively than during its most recent deployment. That six-month cruise, which ended in July, was particularly tough: It started with the abrupt firing and replacement of the ship’s skipper days before it got underway. Then came two suicides in one month and two man-overboards in a two-week span.
Why was the skipper replaced?
Also, 60 percent of its sailors were on their first deployments — an unusually high figure, ship officials said. Most of the crew wasn’t used to life at sea.
A greater number of greenhorns than usual - sacrificial lambs? I pray this is not the case.
Earlier today this news broke via Haaretz:
'Azerbaijan granted Israel access to air bases on Iran border' (http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/azerbaijan-granted-israel-access-to-air-bases-on-iran-border-1.421428)
Israel has been granted access to air bases in Azerbaijan on Iran's northern border, Foreign Policy reported Wednesday, quoting senior U.S. diplomats and military intelligence officials.
"The Israelis have bought an airfield," a senior U.S. administration official told Foreign Policy's Mark Perry, "and the airfield is called Azerbaijan."
Tick tick tick.

Why was the skipper replaced?
This is why--> http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-01-04/news/27086425_1_female-sailors-videos-skits
The Navy captain accused of making raunchy videos -- in an apparent effort to entertain his sailors -- will lose his post, defense officials said Tuesday.
Captain Owen Honors will be relieved of command and replaced on the USS Enterprise, which is currently in Norfolk, Va., before the nuclear-powered ship deploys to the Middle East later this month.
The videos, which used homophobic slurs, mimicked masturbation and featured scenes of women showering together, were made and broadcast between 2006 and 2007 when Honors was the second in command of the USS Enterprise.
When the videos were created, the naval vessel was operating in support of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
The video was leaked to the Virginian-Pilot newspaper on Saturday. It contains several skits, including one where two female sailors stand in a shipboard shower stall pretending to watch each other before Honors joins them.
In another, Honors pretends he's masturbating and uses a slur to refer to homosexuals. A later skit shows sailors simulating a rectal exam.
But not everyone is outraged. On the Enterprise's Facebook page, several sailors and their families came rushing to Honors' defense.
"This situation with the Captain Honors really pisses me off!," wrote one, Shawn Sullivan. "The Captain was only trying to keep up the spirits of the crew. This was NOT meant to disrespect anyone."
"My husband served under him while he was CO of the Big E and I know that those were some of our happier days in the Navy," wrote Lauren Dodgin.
"I think that was in no small part due to his ability to lift morale and more importantly due to the RESPECT he afforded his crew."
Navy officials have called the skits "clearly inappropriate." An official announcement about the replacement is expected Tuesday afternoon.

The Talmud-worshippers have a big incentive to stage a false flag where forces commanded by Israel sink the Enterprise - got to go for maximum effect.
of course there is a BIG $$ benefit from this for their comrades @ the defense contractors.
so it's at least a 2-fer.
got to burn up lots of ammo so the US gov. will buy more.

So 60% of the sailors are on their first deployment... What does that mean? They are 18-21 yoa? Just kids, photos on every TV station and Newspaper! Parents crying who are not even middle aged. Planned for maximum effect?

As I remembered it, the ship was supposed to be decommissioned this year, around summertime, now they moved it to next year, according to Wikipedia? None of the videos above are available any longer, apart from the press-tv...
