View Full Version : "Buy it Cheap and Stack it Deep"

I'm concentrating on imported milsurp ammo. Bought a few cases and will buy more up to the elections. I think a lame duck prez with nothing to lose would probably use his executive order pen to by-pass Congress and ban imported ammo. Either way, my goal always has been to "buy it cheap and stack it deep" as I accumulate my "two lifetime supply" in my prepping strategy. I filled in a few gaps at one safe house and working on the others.

Just filling in the gaps.

That is about half of what I got. I have a similar setup at another place and a smaller stash elsewhere. Then there is a bit more cached with some SKS and small arms. For now I am only adding milsurp ammo (9x23, 7.62x25, 7.62x39, 7x57, 7.92x57, 7.62x51, 7.62x54R, and 7.65x53) and some commercial ammo (9x18 and 5.56x45) when I find it at decent prices. Occassionally I pick up some 9x17 (.380), 9x19 and .45 acp as well but I have plenty and family members reload my brass.
I figure we have a few months before foreign milsurp ammo imports are banned if the elections go as I think they will. A lame duck Obama will have no constraints to stop him from signing a blizzard of executive orders. Regardless, my goal is getting two lifetime supplies of ammo and now my efforts are being redoubled to meet my goal before the next election "feeding frenzy" when people come to the realization of things to come.
Just my two cents fwiw.

That's quite the pile of ammo. I'm impressed. I personally would focus on food more at this point. You cannot eat bullets.

In every nook and cranny as well.
Need the firearms for defense and to protect supplies. Besides, I stockpile the ammo in order to get it cheap now as prices are certain to keep rising going forward. In fact prices have more than doubled over the last decade.

Damn Black Blade, your posts here always impress me. I've got a long ways to go for my personal preps. But, a little at a time, I've got maybe 6 months worth of food/water.
I hope you're wrong about ammo towards the end of the year. BTW, a coworker of mine, who's half awake I'd say, mentioned the same thing. He's buying up a lot of ammo right now.

I dont know what yall need guns and food for, the government will provide you with saftey and nurishment if anything bad happens...............
Blackblade, can I come live with you? I share your feelings entirley. Being as that I am primarily a surplus owner/shooter/collector, I also fear an executive order severley limiting surplus ammo. However it goes down, I would dare say that even a minor ingress into the limiting of imported surplus will be the very first step in future gun control, along with nation wide banning of high-cap mags.
Domestic ammo will be last, since its a "jobs" thing and of course the military contracts. WIth everything going on with the ATF latley, this will be key to how it goes down. Remember, they dont need to pass a law, all they need is the for the ATF to "redefine" some of their position and instantly overnight they could have gun control. Itll be slow and gradual and the surplus market will be one of the first shots across the bow.

What do you do about water, Black Blade? I see the Berkeys, but what about actual water storage, or do you not need that where you live?

You're doing well. With a berkey, as long as the creek doesnt run dry, or get massivley polluted beyond the berkeys abilities, you're in good shape. I need some back up filters for mine. In fact I just had one break on me and it was a good wake up call. Luckily it was just the glue came loose so I reglued it and its back to 100%, but I didnt catch it right away and the water was bipassing the filter for at least a few fill ups. That could have been very bad in a SHTF situation.
One thing we have an abundance of here in South Florida is water. Despite being in what seems like an eternal drought, all you've really gotta do is dig a hole 5 feet and you've got water. Not to mention theres a canal, run-off line, lake or pond literaly every 1/4 mile. :)

Hey BB,
Where do you purchase your milsurp ammo?
Lately been buying cases of M67 and M75 Yugo from Wideners. Recently bought some "rusty" tins of 7.62x54R from Copes Distributing. Also bought a few ammo cans of Lake City 5.56 from Walmart and Sportsmans Warehouse. I also have bought milsurp from J&G Sales, Classic Arms and AIM Surplus. I have bought 9x23 Largo surplus from Long Mountain Outfitters and Ammunitiontogo.com. Have bought milsurp from SGammo and Sarco as well.
I tend to check prices and availability with ammo search engines:

sgammo.com usually has pretty good pricing. Their stock changes so you'll need to check often.
