Why GMO And Organic Can Not Co-Exist: Lateral Gene Transfer

January 22, 2012 Print Version (http://blacklistednews.com/?news_id=17519&print=1)

Sayer Ji, Contributing Writer

One of the most disturbing, though commonly overlooked properties of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is their documented ability (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/keyword/gmos-and-horizontal-gene-transfer) to transfer genetic information horizontally into those who consume them.

This process actually occurs quite commonly in nature, especially among bacteria, which do not reproduce sexually and therefore have evolved a number of mechanisms through which to transfer genetic information directly between one another directly. Viruses themselves can essentially be described as 'pieces of genetic information in search of chromosomes,' their very "infectivity" being examples of horizontal gene transfer between species. The whole field of genetic engineering, in fact, would not exist were it not for the science and technology that harnesses and/or co-opts processes of horizontal gene transfer.

Technically speaking, horizontal gene transfer (also known as "lateral gene transfer") is the process by which an organism incorporates genetic material from another organism without being the offspring of that organism. Vertical transfer, on the other hand, occurs when an organism receives genetic material from its ancestor, e.g., its parent or a species from which it has evolved.

Animal research published (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/article/genetically-modified-lactic-acid-bacteria-can-transfer-genetic-information-e-faecalis-bacter) in 2003 in the journal of Environmental Biosafety Research showed that genetically modified lactic acid bacteria are capable of transferring recombinant genes sequences directly (horizontally) into Enteroccous faecalis, another naturally occurring species of digestive tract bacteria found in humans, as well.

Other animal research (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/article/orally-ingested-foreign-dna-mice-may-affect-chromosomal-activity-and-exhibits-placental-tran) on orally ingested foreign DNA not only shows it is capable of transferring to, and/or altering genetic information within, the animal consuming it, but is also capable of affecting the genetics of the fetuses and newborn of pregnant mice who were fed it.

The existence of a free flow of genetic information from food to organism, and then transplacentally, to the organism's future progeny, through horizontal gene transfer, illustrates just how true the age-old phrase "you are what you eat" is -- for better and for worse.

Perhaps more importantly is the revelation that there can be no "peaceful co-existence" between genetically modified foods and authentically natural ones, as the former by definition implies the irreversible transformation of the latter into itself. To state, as Whole Foods recently did (http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/did-whole-foods-sells-out-monsanto), that co-existence is possible between GM and non-GM foods, is like saying pregnancy and virginity can co-exist, under natural circumstances.

I believe it is time to openly identify GM food for what it is.

Because genetically modified foods can vectorize the dissemination of recombinant DNA sequences throughout the entire biosphere, as well as anyone who would consume them, they embody a virus-like quality of pathogenicity and could, without exaggeration, be identified as bioweapons of potential mass destruction.

Add to this Lateral transference the disturbing fact that these gmo crops can and do forever alter the genetic composition of their non-gmo counterparts. It is said that wild corn varieties in the mountains of Mexico now are forever polluted with gmo genetics. It is a crime against the present and the future to let these monstrosities loose upon the world.

First hour: Pamm Larry of LabelGMOs.or (http://www.labelgmos.org/)g (http://www.labelgmos.org/), a.k.a. The Committee for the Right to Know.

If the big food companies are putting out frankenfoods containing genetically modified organisms, shouldn't they have to at least tell us on the label?! The big food companies' only argument against labeling GMOs is that they'll lose sales. Don't we have the right to buy the kind of food WE want?

Second hour: William Veale of the Center for 9/11 Justice (http://www.centerfor911justice.org/). Veale, along with two other attorneys, represented April Gallop in her case against Cheney et. al. April Gallop and her baby were injured by the apparent bomb blast that struck the Pentagon at 9:31 a.m. (NOT 9:37, the time the government claims the Pentagon was hit by Flight 77). Escaping through the hole in the Pentagon, Gallop saw no evidence of any plane crash: No parts, bodies, luggage, wings, tail section, seats, major pieces of aluminum, wheels...NADA. While in the hospital, she was browbeaten by officials who tried to convince her that she HAD seen a crashed plane.

Later, after discussions with many Pentagon co-workers who agreed that none had seen any evidence of a plane crash, Gallop grew skeptical of the official version of 9/11, and wound up suing Cheney et. al. for perpetrating the attacks. After losing at the first level and appealing to a three judge federal panel, Gallop's lawyer William Veale was shocked to learn that one of the three judges, John Walker, was George Bush's cousin! Nonplussed that Walker hadn't already recused himself due to the obvious conflict of interest, Veale filed a motion for recusal. Walker and the other two judges not only rejected Veale's motion, but sanctioned him for even asking for the recusal! Now, in their final decision, Bush cousin Judge John Walker and his two co-panelists have sanctioned Veale and ordered him to pay a $15,000 fine for allegedly being "in bad faith" when he asked Bush's cousin to recuse himself from judging a case alleging horrific crimes by the Bush administration!

Compared to this, Alice in Wonderland's trial was a model of judicial probity.

We need to find out where Judge John Walker lives, and start staging noisy demonstrations outside his house demanding that he step down from the federal bench.

DNA is a nucleic acid consisting of a nitrogenous heterocyclic base, a pentose sugar, and a phosphate group. DNA can be destroyed by the same substances that can destroy other human tissue - intense heat, strong ionizing radiation, a strong base such as sodium hydroxide, or a strong acid such as hydrofluoric acid.

Monsanto Award of $1 Billion Against DuPont Reveals New Dimension of Genetic Patent Wars (http://www.activistpost.com/2012/08/monsanto-award-of-1-billion-against.html)

"A huge verdict has come down on the side of Monsanto in the absurd amount of $1 billion to be paid by competitor DuPont. While it might seem like something to almost be happy about, since DuPont is yet another mega chemical corporation which has been implicated in damage to the environment (http://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/Imprelis-DuPont-herbicide-tree-death-side-effects-lawsuit) and human health (http://www.crocodyl.org/wiki/dupont), this potentially sets a bad precedent to be cited in future legal verdicts, thus giving Monsanto even more legal standing and power. Perhaps most ominous of all, this legal victory was granted for a product that was never even on the market, taking on a new dimension in the area of patent infringement. PatColo,

truthfully?

Would said profiteering not place oneself in the exact same position as the despised global bankers?

Looks from here to be a GLOWING example of breaking, at the very least, the 10th of the Ten Commandments, plus others #2, #5, #6, #8, as well. While one may not "immediately drop dead" from violating #'s 10, 2, 5, 6, and 8, the consequences are immediate, concurrent, and permanently indelible on one's soul, albeit forgiveable by the Creator of All, but still indelible scars, even if/when forgiveness is earnestly sought/requested and granted as promised in Holy Writ.

I'm struck again, this morning, by the accompanying words recorded by Moses which translate roughly in the King James as
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them [graven images of Commandment #2], nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; If I'm not mistaken, this is not the only passage that speaks to the infliction of damage to yet unborn generations based upon our own damaged state and subsequent behaviours whether deliberate or ignorant.

Reading on another site, "Global Culling has begun and 10 strategies to flip the odds in my favor" I've drawn a straight line between the red admonition/truth above and the conclusion drawn by modern science as to the DNA damage/egg production influence of our precious female partners that extend at least to the 3rd Generation in this Adamic lineage from which we sprang. God have mercy.

The beguiling siren lyric of capitalism has its downside/shortcomings, yes?

Pat: Last year I had 75 head of cows out of 250 aborted their fetuses do to feed made from gmo distillers grain. Don Huber explains how it works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4swW9OFmf8

He put me in touch with a researcher at a college who is studying the new organism that tested the feed I had for the organism. The feed I had was really loaded with the organism and the fellow doing the research told me their was no doubt in his mind that it was the feed that caused them to abort. Don Huber in his videos esplains how this organism passes through the meat from cattle fed gmo feed to women. It causes infertility in women too. I don't think god would be to happy with those who are making money this way. I think those profiting would be looked on the same way as the moneychangers in the temple were when Jesus delt with them.

Tumbleweed,

having raised cattle in my younger years--went the AI route--since I decided against feeding the Angus bull year- round, whether keeping him penned or worrying about him breaking a leg in gopher holes upon in the BLM range, etc., yours truly was astonished at your 30% loss of calves. That's just one generation's worth.

And GMO is only one of your problems. DNA damage from Fukushima fallout on the grass-fed cattle is the OTHER significant, double jeapordy your stock 'n trade is now facing, big time. This could DOUBLE your referenced abortion rate if not more!!!!!!!!!!

Noticed you didn't speak to what percentage of heifers your brood herd usually throw vs. steers, which would represent the exponential loss from just this year's calf crop.

Nor did you allude to what your plans were due to the 30% who aborted, since you now have incontrovertable proof of DNA damage, let alone high probability of them not throwing any additional live calves "next season."

I don't know of ANY business plan, other than mining, which can sustain a 30% haircut right off the top and stay in business very long. And mining can only "give away up to Sinclair's flaunted 45% of the top" because the value of their final throughput is increasing at least if involved in PMs or rare-earths' or strategic metals' categories.

So, are you going to experience any difficulty in running this through the local auctions without telling the world of the aborted calves records, now that ranchers are required to tag all and track all cattle in this "brave new big brother" world? Or are these going to end up ground up for dog food, etc?

Serious and concerned inquiries from one who has been ridiculed by you in the past, something about me not being manly enough or jew-hater enough to suit you. So, set that aside and respond if you will. I DO feel your concern from a former cattle raiser viewpoint.

Perhaps, other than crazy chicken who also raises cattle (Colorado?) and who has quit posting on this forum, I feel your pain and would truly like your return dialog on this matter near and dear to your very survival whether as a hired cowboy or the owner of the "lil' dogggies" you're herding.

THanks for the replies beefsteak & tumbleweed. Excellent food for thought. I was actually considering long-term call options, since they don't add to the "demand" for MON stock; they're once-removed, just speculating on which way the stock will go, while not actually fueling that move (up or down). Just looking at a bullish long term chart, of a corp which appears to be cornering their market. But the morality question does have to weigh in regardless. :)

Tumble, I wonder if you're part of some sort of cattle association, many of whom likely had similar loss experiences, with whom you could discuss a class-action suit against Monsanto? Might have to be in cooperation with your feed suppliers, coz less successfully reproduced cattle = less feed sales for them. All dick-stabbers should be pointed at the root, monsanto's junk. Through MON's pattern of contractual/legal thuggery in relation to farmers, it's getting really hard to get food/feed which is NOT GMO.

YW, PatColo.

You bring up a good point, aka

"getting really hard to get food/feed which is NOT GMO"

Sterilized via one Monsanto derivative removed, using skillful option writing strategies is a good source of income, granted. Don't believe my earlier response would be molified, if that is a query on your part. Would caution you if you proceed, that Monsanto is not the only gorilla in that space....while still the largest, DuPont is carving out market share, enough so that it has registered on my peripheral radar in the last couple months or so.

Cattle, of course, are NOT the only livestock category subjected to this depopulation via GMO convention. Add in poutry, as well.

For instance, Helen has shown me in recent weeks the ENORMOUS TO ME ANYWAY SIZE of a single 14week old, chick breast. She's been buying in bulk through a local grocer. Have you seen the enormous size of these creatures' white meat breasts?

Part of me is waiting for the 'other shoe to drop' in the Tyson dominated (gorilla in the space) poultry industry. And feeling "fear" as I await those nasty revelations, similar to what is shared by Tumbleweed, and his peers.

It is a known fact that poultry prices have maintained if not slightly dipped this current season for some unknown to me reason.

GMO laying mash is from the same ilk, yes? Wonder if gunny will weigh in on this topic re: his small flock and his feeding ration/routine...

having raised cattle in my younger years--went the AI route--since I decided against feeding the Angus bull year- round, whether keeping him penned or worrying about him breaking a leg in gopher holes upon in the BLM range, etc., yours truly was astonished at your 30% loss of calves.

Perhaps, other than crazy chicken who also raises cattle (Colorado?) and who has quit posting on this forum, I feel your pain and would truly like your return dialog on this matter near and dear to your very survival whether as a hired cowboy or the owner of the "lil' dogggies" you're herding.

beefsteak

Beefsteak: I have you confused with crazychicken it appears. I did have some unkind thoughts about some of your posts and I expressed them. Where do you stand when it comes to Jewery? Have you read "the plot against the church"? "The Talmud Unmasked"? "The Curse of Canaan"? "The New HIstory of the Jews"? These are just a few that are pretty enlightening about what is happening in this country and all over the world. It's nothing new. There's a pattern to it and the Jews are always involved. It you study the history of the Jews there's a pattern appears in all the countrys they inhabit and it leads to the destruction of those countrys. It's been going on for the last three thousand years. I like straight talk, no bullshit.

I don't just believe everything I'm told or read. I look around for confirmation on what I've read or heard. There's plenty of confirmation I see around me of what I've read about the Jews and what is wrong with this country and others around the world. I have some insight in to what goes on right under the noses of the goyim farmers and ranchers who are being taken advantage of in their marketing. I belong to a couple of cattlemens organizations who fight them continualy but they seem to have no idea who they are really fighting and won't believe it when you tell them. They are too brainwashed by the main stream media owned by Jews. Jews control the feeding and packing industry and they rob the goyim on a regular basis at the auction markets.

Those cows that aborted their fetuses were sold imediately. They were all cows who were young and had just raised their first calf. The cost of feeding them until they could be rebred was prohibitive. That makes it even worse. You're right about farmers or ranchers having a hard time withstanding that sort of loss. Don Huber told me of many situations where producers have been put out of business or are on their way out because of it. Monsanto is covering it up and researchers have lost their jobs if they speak up about this. That's why I didn't mention the name of the researcher who did the feed analysis for me.

When it comes to the radiation situation with Fukushima I think we're screwed. About the only thing we can do is take vit. C and a few other supplements that may help us avoid cancer for awhile. Pandoras box has been opened at Fukushima and it can't be closed. The cattle and horses have to eat even if the grass is radiated and so do we.

The bull and heifer calves tend to be close to fifty percent every year. There is always some variation but not to much. I've stopped feeding all supplement to the cows that comes from gmo's. The gmo feed affects the cattles immunity to disease and I've had the healthiest cows and calves this year that I've had for a long time. I'm skilled in the care of cattle and using horses to tend them. That makes me a cowboy. I own the cattle and the land I run them on so that makes me a rancher.

I'm angry that monsanto has contaminated almost all of the supplemtal feed that is out there. Alfalfa is the last source of suplemental feed for protein and they are contaminating that as well. I'm surrounded by people like myself who are struggling to find feed to keep their cattle because of the drought. The gmo feed loaded with the organism that causes abortion is everywhere. The people who will buy lots of it are almost totaly unaware of what it can do. Monsanto is trying to cover it up. The high cost of the feed and the possibility of abortion will be just one more blow to their ability to survive in the cattle business. The feed dealers are keeping their mouths shut when they are told about the problem because they will be put out of business if they tell the truth.

Beefsteak I don't hate the Jews but I do hate what they do. If you haven't read I. B. Pranaitis "The Talmud unmasked" you should. The Talmud is the holiest book of the Jews and it is a guide for them in their dealings with the goyims. Anyone who defends them or what they do may become the focus of some unkind words from me.

Our government, big pharma, grain, cattle feeding, the packing industry and others seem to be controlled by the usual suspects. I have to take responsibility for whether I succeed of fail in the cow business. Part of being successful is keeping an eye on what will put me out of business and when I look around there always seems to be a Jew at the root of the problems. SOB's

The 30% loss won't break me but another one could so I have to take measures to avoid it. I do my best to make others aware that what happened to me could happen to them and who's behind the corporation that brought on this destruction and continues to do so. That's all I have time for this morning I've got to get to work. Thankyou for your concern for my troubles in the cow business. I can't apologize for giving you a hard time if you are a defender of the Jews. If you are you need to read some of the books I've mentioned then take a good look around. that's what Ive done and I don't like what I find.

tumbleweed,
...thanks for your response to my questions about your cattle .

.....my "jewry feelings" can be summed up thusly...
there are the 'original Jews' whom I'm sympathetic to, and in unwavering support of. And then there are the pretend Jews of dubious origins whose nefarious and dastardly behaviors are well documented and pervasive in modern times. I even have some of the latter in my intimate family circle. It's tough "loving" them in their "adopted status" believe me.

....I believe the Holocaust occurred and am appalled by it's reality. I believe non-jewish deaths were also caused by this historical event. I'm no more let alone no less appalled re: other ethnic purges which I also believe have horrifically occurred with nauseating regularity across the eons of time.

I'm a follower of the Jeshua. He is my Savior and my King.

it was a mere few hours after penning to you my lines above re: the DuPont ascendency vs Monsanto, that the news hit the wires that Monsanto won a billion+ dollar settlement against encroachment by DuPont.

Did you catch that?

"Let Thy Food Be Thy Medicine, And Thy Medicine Be Thy Food." - Hippocrates

Food Matter examines how the food we eat can help or hurt our health. Nutritionists, naturopaths, doctors, and journalists weigh in on topics organic food, food safety, raw foodism, and nutritional therapy.

This movie is outstanding. It should be mandatory to be shown to every one who cares about "health care" in the US. The cartel and money- driven actors in this massive industry are encouraged to let people get sick, and then treat them with expensive pharmaceuticals and medical procedures. "Specialists" MD's have become singularly minded in their patient interactions, such that anything that is complex, multi-system, and doesn't drive to an expensive procedure is brushed off an "unremarkable". Sick people and their families are often distraught not so much about their illnesses, but about the woeful "bedside manner" of so many doctors, who show little ability to think outside the box, let alone reinforce nutritional and wellness best practices at every turn. If the AMA and other medical industry organizations truly were effective and cared to truly "fix" the health outcomes of our 310 million citizens while dramatically lowering the costs associated to it, the look and feel of our mini-marts, supermarkets, fast food restaurants....and physical appearance of millions of Americans...would be much different.

The leaders of Big Agriculture--Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta--are determined that world's populations remain ignorant about the serious health and environmental risks of genetically modified crops and industrial agriculture. Deep layers of deception and corruption underlie both the science favoring GMOs and the corporations and governments supporting them.

Beefsteak and Tumbleweed, I bred about 3500 first service cows per year back in the '70's. In those days if you dropped below 70% conception you got your butt chewed out. Got out of the biz to do other things. Last fall a local technician lost his relief guy and asked me if I would fill in a couple days a week and I accepted. I can't believe how bad conception is these days, many farms running 40 to 50% conception. When talking to the farmers its amazing how many of the low conception herds are feeding Gmo corn. Even the ones that do'nt raise it are buying d.g.'s and getting it there.I came across an article by a vet who had been doing some research on this and he was noticing that the ovaries in breeding age heifers werw under developed, ovaries the size of peas when they should be about the size of lima beans. Quite possibly this is being done on purpose for human population control.

Now for a bit of good news, a local seedcorn salesman has told me that he gets more and more farmers going back to the regular hybrids because of price, better yields and the weeds becoming resistant to roundup. One farmer that turns his beef cows onto the cornfields every fall put them in a 60 acre field and they just stood there and bellowed. He had to start feeding round bales. Another customer that is organic raises and sells open pollinated seed corn. All around his fields are GMO corn. I asked him about the cross polination thing and he told me there is a limit to what it can be and still be considered organic. I can't remember what the cutoff number is but the test on his corn was coming back at .0015% gmo and has not hardly changed in the last 5 years. I'm cautiously optimistic that people are gradually waking up, lets just hope it isn't to late.

Monsanto Stock in Danger, Investor Warns (http://www.care2.com/greenliving/investor-warns-monsanto-stock-leaves-bad-aftertaste.html)

http://www.indymedia.ie/attachments/may2013/monsantotomato.jpg (http://www.indymedia.ie/attachments/may2013/monsantotomato.jpg)

I was shocked to read a story in Canada’s highly conservative national newspaper, The Globe and Mail (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-investor/investment-ideas/strategy-lab/growth-investing/this-food-stock-has-a-bad-aftertaste/article13488677/), a couple of days ago in which well-known investor and columnist Chris Umiastowski, P.Eng., MBA, warned of the risk in holding Monsanto stock. It was refreshing to read the views of an investor who is not just concerned about the bottom line but also the potential health and environmental risks in such a conservative paper. I knew that this was a victory-of-sorts for all of us who share a concern over the increasingly genetically-modified nature of our food supply.
