My question to the forum is, if we had a war with Iran, what would happen to prices and also employment in the US.

Essentially, what do you think would happen to the prices of these things if we had a war with Iran:

Gas
Gold, silver
Food
Ammo
Homes
Stock market

Also, what areas of employment would be in higher demand, and what areas would be depressed?

Is it correct to assume that the prices for everything commodities would go up, and maybe that prices for services would go up but more slowly? What commodities would go up fastest?

Gas would probably go up fastest, until it becomes rationed. I would think initially in a war with Iran, dollar would gain, which would have a depressive effect on PM's, probably more so on silver than on gold, but silver is also used in weapons manufacturing, electronics etc, but I wouldn't expect that to have much influence in the beginning. Long term the war will bankrupt America and I would expect a dollar replacement... Stock market? Avoid anything that isn't war industry related, miners may become nationalized! Food will become rationed at the same time as gas, so it is good to have emergency supplies, and a plot to grow some of your own, preferably away from people. Expect total taking away of individual freedoms, many checkpoints and arrests for antigovernment activities, like criticizing public officials, being vocal against the war, speaking with the wrong person, not observing curfews, hiding food, previous Internet activity (probably Internet will go black or be highly restricted, depending on your security clearance).

Just some random thoughts!

Thanks neuro....though that's a pretty dim outlook.

The reason I'm asking is I thinking now might be a good time to get a highly fuel efficient car of craigslist before they all go up in price.

I doubt that there is much specific that we can do to prepare for a war with Iran. Maybe buy some sort of underground nuclear war shelter if you live in a big city--in advance of the arrival of nukes from Russia or China. Or, move out of a large city if you live in one.

You might also want to build a farraday cage for your electronic equipment that you would like to remain functional in case of an EMP attack. I presume that this next war will be WW III, and it may last a few days. If all our critical infrastructure is destroyed by whatever means, we'll all have to rebuild it. All of us who are left, that is. I think rather than preparing for this war, we should just try to spend as much time as we can with the people we love and who love us. Just hang back and watch the insanity. Learn from it. And tell your kids what really happened instead of letting them believe the official version. Don't worry about markets. There won't be any. What there will be lots of is 'authority'.

Dim? I was being optimistic! Hatha's is dimmer... War with Iran ain't going to be a walk in the park. Russia and China has drawn the line in the sand on this one. A full scale nuclear war is a possibility, though I think that is not so likely to begin with... Nevertheless it is going to be a full scale war, were all of societies resources will be allocated to the war effort and no dissent will be allowed. The patriot act will give the president dictatorial powers...
