I still can't believe this one...actually, it leaves me quite speechless.

So, I was waiting to get a haircut today at barber in a city nearby. In this city, they have an ordinance, certain folks are not allowed to smoke in their own homes. Such as apartment complexes, or condos, etc.

The guy getting a haircut in front of me, made a comment how we are becoming just like 1930's Germany. He said, this city council, wants to go around and enter people's homes, to make sure they are not smoking inside.

Inside their own homes.

This city council, basically wants to toss our 4th amendment rights because of smoking. This is no joke. This is what parts of our country have sunk to.

This is pretty bad. I thought when they banned tossing football and frisbee on the beach (http://centurycity.patch.com/articles/supervisors-no-frisbees-on-county-beaches) with a $1,000 fine to be enough...

A group of homogeneous people whose economy advanced more in 10 years than any other country in history before or since.

Do I agree with their stance on smoking, no. Would I give up smoking to live in a homogeneous society where the top tax rate was 15% and our technology and manufacturing base was superior to everyother country? You bet your ass.

Germany is still trying to recover.

And whose fault is that the Germans, or the jews who brought the world down on them?

Exactly.

Cite facts to this, please. "A group of homogeneous people whose economy advanced more in 10 years than any other country in history before or since."

What about a country where the tax rate was zero? America pre 1913/14. Less so over time, obviously.

Personally, I'm not gonna give up anything because the state wants me or told me to, that's not my idea of utopia.

Let me first state that I do not disagree with you, and my first comment I think has been misunderstood. When solid went on about how things in the US are getting to be like Nazi Germany, I replied with I wish, meaning I wish we were kicking out our central bank, I wish we were deporting marxists, and smut peddlers, I wish we were homogenous.

I understand your point believe me, I want freedom, freedom for me my family and my people, so on a personal preference basis I'd rather be a hermit answering to no one than have a government of any sort telling me what to do.

My point is I get tired as hell of people equating todays US to Nazi Germany, it just shows a lack of understanding. It's like the people who think Obama is/was anti semitic and anti kikestan. It just makes no sense.

...and therefore the state should decide the rules, even though they aren't the owners*. Regardless of the agreement the tenant may have made with the owner about smoking (or anything else) the state just steps in and says "policy uber alles!"

*(I understand they ARE the owners, I'm just saying).

The guy getting a haircut in front of me, made a comment how we are becoming just like 1930's Germany.

I know the guy meant the usual things when people talk about 1930s Germany, but Hitler was very anti-tobacco (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany):

The early anti-smoking campaign was considered a failure, and from 1933 to 1937 there was a rapid increase in tobacco consumption in Germany.[13] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC228-12) The rate of smoking in the nation increased faster even than in neighboring France (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/France), where the anti-tobacco movement was tiny and far less influential. Between 1932 and 1939, per capita (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Per_capita) cigarette consumption in Germany increased from 570 to 900 per year, while the corresponding numbers for France were from 570 to 630.

Association with antisemitism and racism

Apart from public health concerns, the Nazis were heavily influenced by ideology;[28] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-INJPR98-27) specifically, the movement was influenced by concepts of racial hygiene (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racial_hygiene) and bodily purity.[46] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC174-45) Nazi leaders believed that it was wrong for the master race (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_race) to smoke[28] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-INJPR98-27) and that tobacco consumption was equal to "racial degeneracy".[47] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC220-46) The Nazis viewed tobacco as a "genetic poison".[46] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC174-45) Racial hygienists opposed tobacco use, fearing that it would "corrupt" the "German germ plasm".[48] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC179-47) Nazi anti-tobacco activists often tried to depict tobacco as a vice of the degenerate Negroes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Negroes).[46] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC174-45)

The Nazis claimed that the Jews (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew) were responsible for introducing tobacco and its harmful effects. The Seventh-day Adventist Church (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh-day_Adventist_Church) in Germany announced that smoking was an unhealthy vice spread by the Jews.[48] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC179-47)Johann von Leers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johann_von_Leers), editor of the Nordische Welt (Nordic World), during the opening ceremony of the Wissenschaftliches Institut zur Erforschung der Tabakgefahren in 1941, proclaimed that "Jewish capitalism" was responsible for the spread of tobacco use across Europe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe). He said that the first tobacco on German soil was brought by the Jews and that they controlled the tobacco industry in Amsterdam (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam), the principal European entry point of Nicotiana (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicotiana).[49] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tobacco_movement_in_Nazi_Germany#cite_note-NWC208-48)

California, enough said.

They're starting to ban it in public housing in other states (http://www.no-smoke.org/goingsmokefree.php?id=597). Once they get people on board with it there, I wouldn't be surprised if they start rolling out California-style bans for everyone with these creeping fascism tactics.

Exactly. Just like bars/restaurants should be able to decide if they will allow smoking or not. People who smoke (or not mind being around it) would go to the smoking bars and restaurants. People who don't want to be around smoke would go to the non-smoking establishments. Same with the employees.

Yeah... well we need more rules and more controls for our safety. We need signs that say you can't fart.... and if you are suspected of farting, the fart police need to shouve their sniffers into places to judge you. We need laws about taking too many steps while walking, and if you have tie shoes, how the laces must be tied. We need clothing laws and food use restrictions with licenses renewed monthly.

Perhaps when the government is so intrusive that you are accused of battery on a govt officer when you sit down because he was crawling up uranus, then people will say enuf! But it will take alot of intrusion for the morons of today to wake up.
