i learned something new about making coffee.

i use one of those drip cone things, made for a #4 filter. but #4 filters are more expensive, so i use a bulk-purchase filter from the office supply store (500 for $5) - for those big office coffee urns.

instead of pouring all the boiling water in at once, like i've done for many years, i tried pouring a few ounces of hot water out of the pot at a time - just enough to wet the grounds and get it dripping.

so it's like one of those automatic drip coffee-makers, but, much simpler - just a pan of boiling water.

anyway, it makes better (stronger) coffee.
