The Constitution has seen better days. Sure, it is the nation’s founding document and sacred text. And it is the oldest written national constitution still in force anywhere in the world. But its influence is waning.

...

There are lots of possible reasons. The United States Constitution is terse and old, and it guarantees relatively few rights. The commitment of some members of the Supreme Court to interpreting the Constitution according to its original meaning in the 18th century may send the signal that it is of little current use to, say, a new African nation. And the Constitution’s waning influence may be part of a general decline in American power and prestige.

In an interview, Professor Law identified a central reason for the trend: the availability of newer, sexier and more powerful operating systems in the constitutional marketplace. “Nobody wants to copy Windows 3.1,” he said. Wow, what a great analogy. Our constitution is like Windows 3.1, while South Africa is running Windows 7. Therefore, South Africa's constitution is better than ours, wtf?

Here's more garbage from the posted link:

Justice Antonin Scalia told the Senate Judiciary Committee in October. “Every banana republic in the world has a bill of rights,” he said.

“The bill of rights of the former evil empire, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, was much better than ours,” he said, adding: “We guarantee freedom of speech and of the press. Big deal. They guaranteed freedom of speech, of the press, of street demonstrations and protests, and anyone who is caught trying to suppress criticism of the government will be called to account. Whoa, that is wonderful stuff!”

“Of course,” Justice Scalia continued, “it’s just words on paper"

I have no objection to regaining inhabitant status. Others can do as they like.

Actually no written constitution is necessary. The British have never had one unless it is considered to be the Magna Carte. The constitution is a compact written by a constitutor in order to pass his debt along to others. As its' life extends beyond 99 years then it must also be considered a charitable trust, the only entity that survives beyond 99 years.

The United States Constitution is terse and old, and it guarantees relatively few rights. Then the question of what "rights" are needs to be discussed, I think some have it crossed on what a "right" actually is and where they come from.

The NY Times is engaged in sedition of the worst kind, against the bedrock foundation of this republic. How hypocritical to claim that our Constitution claims too few rights for the people, while working to undermine those few rights daily. These bastards are nothing more than new age Bolshevics, promising the people nirvana while they secretly plot to imprison and enslave them.

Fuck the NY Times.

it guarantees relatively few rights. It guarantees property rights and in the end that's all that matters (since rights are property anyway).

it is actually...in africa the niggers can just walk in and kill a white guy and steal his farm without any government interference, here, he has to go through the courts for the same result.

Luckily only 17 people still read the NYTimes.....LOL

A quick check on Alexa reveals even sites like Infowars.com and Drudge get many times more traffic than the NYTimes or any other dying lying media.'

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/nytimes.com# - NYTimes stats:

Global rank: 98
Rank in US: 31

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/infowars.com# - Infowars stats

Global Rank: 1722
Rank in US: 535

Dont worry, NOBODY with a pulse is reading the NYTimes. This is why they must resort to articles like this: For its SHOCK value. It is the only way they can create traffic to their sites.

Look what happened to that country. It's a shit-hole as much [or more] as the US. The US at least has a border for people to cross. The UK is an island and brought hordes of immigrants it's [once great] country. A Constitution is necessary, but modeled after the Swiss.

The first thing the NYT and its wonkers would do is take away our guns and then guarantee health care, food, and shelter to everyone.

I think you have your numbers backwards. On the ranking, lower the number the more traffic. Google is ranked number one.

You also need to add in the NYT's print editions to their total circulation.

The Constitution is a contract between the people and the government. What is written on paper is only significant if the parties agree to practice that which they agree to.

The real contract is what actually happens. If one of the parties breaks the contract, and no action is taken by the other party, then a new contract exists. When the government violates the Bill of Rights, and nobody objects, then the Bill of Rights is modified to be the rights the government decides it will give you.

I once talked to a Union shop steward who was keen on enforcing the contract the union had with the company its members worked for. His view of the enforcement of the contract was 'Whatever you can get away with." That's the real contract.

If we all value the constitution so highly, why do we allow the government to violate it with impunity? Why are there no organizations to keep the government accountable?

Why does everyone keep talking about the "Government" as if a bunch of Aliens called "Government"
came down to rule us and we made a pact with them called "the Constitution" which they are violating.
The reality is a Clique of wealthy individuals with a lust for power, through control of the media and certain corporations coupled with ongoing corruption, bribes, blackmail, assasination, payoffs and lieing, has stolen the levers of power and are subverting our system.
Now,thanks to our stalwart " Representatives'" , I can be classified as a Terrorist , picked up without charges, sent overseas and tortured for saying that.
