Scroogle isn't working anymore. I want a search engine like it that doesn't store cookies. Any recommendations?

Try this:

http://search.babylon.com/home

I don't know if they respect your privacy, but I'm pretty sure they don't violate it as much as Google does. I found six cookies related to babylon. Google has many dozens on my computer.

History

In 1995, Israeli entrepreneur Amnon Ovadia identified the need for an online English–Hebrew dictionary that did not interrupt the reading process. As a result, Babylon Ltd. was founded in 1997 and launched the first version of Babylon. On 25 September 1997, the company filed a patent for text recognition and translation.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_%28software%29#cite_note-EKsIAAAAEBAJ-1) The year after its launch date in 1998, Babylon had 2 million users, mostly in Germany and Brazil,[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_%28software%29#cite_note-2) growing from 420,000 to 2.5 million users in the course of that year. By 2000, the product had over 4 million users.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_%28software%29#cite_note-3)

Malware issues

On 7 August 2010, Microsoft antivirus products identified the software application as malware (identified as "Adware: Win32/Babylon") due to potentially intrusive behavior.[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_%28software%29#cite_note-10) Sixteen days later, on 23 August 2010, Microsoft announced that Babylon Ltd. had modified the program and that it was no longer categorized as malware.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_%28software%29#cite_note-11)

Startpage works great with absolutely no issues of cookies, malware, scripts, code etc and as has been mentioned no IP tracing.

And if you use firefox you can make startpage your default search engine in the upper right corner of your browser instead of google. Very convenient!

I just keep it as my homepage and always have it as an open tab.

Thanks, LS--I had no idea who was behind Babylon. I've only been using it for a month. Before that, my Google alternative was either Startpage or Blekko.com. I'm just amazed. Babylon might be a bigger spy than Google.

I also vote for Startpage, but with some misgivings. It just seems like none of the other browsers come up with as many good hits as Google, so I often go back to it if I don't find what I want with Startpage. But I also use CCleaner every time I start my machine.
